We planted a tree in the cave of our ancestors, they were buried under its roots. They became the tree that was to protect our people from the mist and demons that surrounded us. The demons fly and shoot fire at us burning our houses to the ground every few days. The guardians of our clan have been tasked to watch over this tree, help it grow to become a guardian. As our guardian it will protect us from the Bane Bitter and we will protect it.

It has been over ten chiefs since our tree was planted and it has grown strong for our frail little tree. Our bridge between the worlds. We guard Niðavellir, we guard the gate to the island of the mists. This island is our home, our sacred lands. To tread here you need to cleanse you soul and your bodies.

We cleanse our babies when they are born so that when they can crawl and walk on their own they are safe on the earth. They will always be safe on our lands, to drink our waters. These secrets will be passed down to the children of the chief. The children are given the sap from the tree and bathed in the water the elder has run off its bark.

For someone to step on our lands they must do the same plus one more. They must travel to the tree with the Chief and provide an offering to the mist. There is a river that flows down our mountain, the river we call the Elivagar. The new comer must first drink from the tree sap then they must travel to the top of the mountain to the rivers beginning. Then they take a bucket from its waters, and travel to our tree. Warm it up over the blue flames we create before running it over the trees bark.

To create our flame you must use rum on the branch gathered by the chiefs first daughter. Níðhöggr left us an egg telling the chief's daughter was to care for it. It must be her to deliver the warmth to the egg and therefore she must create the flame. The chief's daughter traveled into our tree and gathered the dead branches fallen from our tree. Taking three branches she tied them together with Fish scales and a leather strap. The fish scales were for the baby the leather to protect her. She cleaned the leather with the water from Elivagar before tying it.

This is why it is important to gather the water, it is what she did for the baby. That is what we must do for them, so that they are not cursed. To prevent that curse upon our children we do as we have been asked, we guard our tree, we search for her new egg left to us by Níðhöggr's daughters. We wait for her return.

"So Snow, do you think they thought you were this dragons baby? It says they were looking for her egg."  I was sitting on a chair in my hut with one of the notebooks in my hand a candle lite in the dark. Honestly, since we buried our mother I hadn't left my hut and instead had been reading through the journals.

"Sister you should go outside, its been over a week and the others have been wanting to comfort you. Hiding behind these notes and journal isn't helping, if anything its just hurting you. Can't you see that?" Snow wasn't wrong, everyone had come buy and I didn't open the doors. Letting out a sigh letting my eyes fall from the journal and over to Snow.

"We both know you are right but that isn't going to change anything. If you are going to o this then you can go hang out with Toothless and leave me out of it. I just. I just." I raised my hands to my head, the sudden headache was possibly just the light. I hadn't used anything more than candle light in days. I groaned leaning forward.

"Sister? Are you alright?" I nodded putting the book down.

"Yeah, I'm going to bed, probably just tired. I'll be fine Snow, if you want go tell Hiccup. It would be pointless though, because there is nothing wrong." I said climbing up the stairs, I started coughing. Snow came running over to me as I started wheezing.

"(Y/n)! I'm going to get Hiccup."  I watched as she shot the door out and flew off. I sat against the railing of my stairs.

"Sister you're so dramatic, there is nothing to worry about." I tried to stand but ended up falling down the stairs. Looking around I tried to find the plant I knew would help if I changed it to an ointment.

"(Y/n), what are you doing on the floor? (Y/n)?" I looked over to see Heather standing looking at the smoldering door. She was a little blurry and waving side to side causing me to grip onto the pole. I blinked trying to focus on her but it wasn't working.

"I need.. the umm.. the err.. green stem ground dry." I said that and it made no since to even me. Heather walked over holding out her hand to me. I just watched her, and wanted to tell her to leave but started coughing again, I could barely make out the beating of wings outside and a distressed growling.

"Hiccup?! Can I get some help in here?" Heather called out as I tried to hold myself from the cold that seemed to be coming into the room. I tried to push her away but she held firm as Hiccup came running into the room.

"What is going on in here?" He was next to me and I just rolled my eyes.

"I don't know what happened I just found her like this. She said something about a green stem ground dry." I nodded still blinking trying to get my vision back to normal.

"So you want one of the plants ground into a paste great, which one?"
