Red is such an interesting color to correlate with emotion, because it's on both ends of the spectrum. On one end you have happiness, falling in love, infatuation with someone, passion, all that. On the other end, you've got obsession, jealousy, danger, fear, anger and frustration.

I was sitting just outside of the outpost on tree stump, watching colourful birds dancing overhead. Kylo and I had gone hunting not too long ago and although I felt kind of sorry for the creatures that we'd killed, I could barely hear my thoughts of sympathy over the persistent rumbling of my stomach. Kylo had started a fire and was grilling a beast which he'd skinned and cleaned over the smoky flames. He was shirtless, and it took all I had to tear my gaze away from his body. He seemed really focused on what he was doing, and sometimes I saw him as a perfectionist, but maybe he was just really good at everything he did.
"It's done." his deep voice snapped me out of my thoughts. Using his lightsaber he cut off a chunk of sizzling meat and brought it over to me on a slab. I took it eagerly and was already devouring it by the time he returned with his.
"Is it really that good?" he asked, sitting down on another stump beside me. I nodded, my mouth full of the flesh and he smiled. When I'd swallowed my mouthful I turned to him.
"So they teach you guys how to cook in The First Order?" I asked him jokingly.
"More like survival skills." He replied, munching his own slice of meat.
There was a moment of silence and I racked my brain thinking of what to say. Kylo just ate quietly beside me.
"Do you miss it?"
"Miss what?"
"The First Order." I said.
He shook his head. "Trust me there's not much to miss. I prefer being here."
I thought for a moment. Did he mean he liked being here, or he liked being here with me?"
"So what about you?"
His question had taken me by surprise, I looked up.
"What about me?"
"Do you miss The Resistance, or Jakku?"
"How did you know I was from Jakku?" I asked him.
"You mentioned it when we got here."
My mind began to wander back to the Resistance base, back to Finn and the rest. I did miss them, alot. Then I began to think back to Jakku, remembering it's empty sands and blistering heat. I remembered working at the market each day and then returning home to an empty house each night. Kylo was reading my thoughts but I didn't really care. I felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness.
"Rey."
I looked up and met Kylo's gaze. He had a cautious look in his eyes.
"You were sold by your parents."
"What?"
"I saw them, in a vision."
"How would you know it was them?" He must've seen the wrong people.
"Because in my vision, they sold you to a creature. I saw that same creature just now in your memories."
No. He didn't know what he was talking about. My parents would never sell me, they just lost me on Jakku, but they'd come back for me I knew it. I sprung up and turned to face Kylo who was perched calmly on the tree stump.
"You don't know what you're talking about." I said between clenched teeth.
"Rey. They sold you. They weren't coming back."
I couldn't believe how blunt he was being, anger rose up inside me.
"You don't know what you're talking about!!" I screamed at him, whipping my lightsaber out of my belt in a fury. Kylo quickly extended his, only seconds before my blade came flying towards his face. I slashed at him in a blind rage, as he blocked each stroke. He didn't try to strike back.
"You know nothing about my parents! Nothing!"
I kept pushing towards him with every angry stroke of my saber. I wasn't even looking at his face, although I could easily guess that it was expressionless. Did he feel any emotions at all? Did he even care that he'd just shattered the last sliver of hope that I'd had, the only thing keeping me from spiralling into complete loneliness and despair?
"Rey."
I struck at him with all the energy I had.
"Rey!"
"No!" I screamed at him. " I don't wan't to hear it!" Suddenly I was overcome with exhaustion and dropped my saber, my breathing ragged.
"Rey." He took a step towards me, with his saber already tucked into his belt.
"They're coming back. They're coming back for me." I whispered, completely out of breath and drained of energy. Suddenly I felt empty, as if someone had cut me open and ripped out my insides. I knew that Kylo wasn't lying, and his words had cut deep into my soul.
They weren't coming back for me.
My eyes swelled with tears and I kept my gaze fixed on the leaves. Everything was blurry. I let my saber fall to the ground as the tears poured uncontrollably down my cheeks.
Kylo came up close to me. At first he hesitated, but then I felt his strong arms wrapping around my body. I could've even process what was happening, I was in too much pain. He pulled me closer to him and I placed my forehead against his chest and sobbed.
"Rey, I'm sorry." I could hear his voice between my sobs and he sounded genuinely sorry.
"I didn't mean to upset you. I just thought you'd finally want to know the truth."
Well the truth hurts, I thought to myself as my tears continued to flow. He moved his hands up and down my back rubbing me gently, which just made me cry even more. But it felt good, having someone to cry on, having someone who understood. For a moment I thought of what it would be like to run away with Kylo, far away from the First Order and The Resistance and the rest of the galaxy, just the two of us.
"You're never alone." I heard him say, his voice deep and sincere.
I buried my head further into his chest and I don't know how long it stayed there. At a point I began to feel weak and dizzy from all the fighting and the crying. I remember Kylo scooping me up in his arms, like I weighed nothing, and carrying me back inside the outpost. He'd carried me to my room and placed me gently down on my bed. Then he covered me with my shawl.
The last thing I saw before I closed my eyes was his tall figure, disappearing from my doorway. And I slept soundly that night, better than I'd slept in a long time.
