"I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I was beginning to believe that a very few times in your life, if you were lucky, you might meet someone who was exactly right for you. Not because he was perfect, or because you were, but because your combined flaws were arranged in a way that allowed two separate beings to hinge together."
~Lisa Kleypas, Blue-Eyed Devil (Travises, #2)

Kylo

By the time I awoke, Rey was still asleep. She must've been tired from...everything that had happened the day before. As I lay there, swamped in rich blue sheets and with her small body heaving gently next to mine, I couldn't help but smile. The last time I'd felt this happy was when I had led my first successful attack. It had been a small tribe, on Wobani, with an army that could probably fit onto my ship, but a very stubborn leader. Watching their village burn had filled me with twisted but immense joy.

Now I was here, in bed, with a girl who not so long ago had tried to kill me, and I felt like my life was complete. Then a dark thought crept into my mind. What if she suddenly awoke and realised where she was? What if she was horrified at having slept with the enemy, literally? I glanced around my chamber, my gaze resting on the pile of black clothing at the foot of the bed. She would gather her things as quickly as possibly and demand that I drop her off on the nearest planet. I winced internally at the thought.

"I can hear you silly." I suddenly heard her murmur. Looking down I saw her lashes flutter open sleepily as a small smile stretched across her face. "And I'm not going anywhere." I'd almost forgotten that she could hear my thoughts.

"How are you feeling?" I asked her as she sat up slowly, clutching the sheets to her chest. My eyes swept over her hair that fell loosely down her bare back . She caught me looking and blushed. "Great."

"Are you sure?" I couldn't help but be concerned as many of her burns were still healing and I'd tried my best to be gentle. "I'm fine Kylo, don't worry about me." she said quickly. Then she leaned over and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. Or at least it would've been a quick kiss if I hadn't cupped her face in my hand and kissed her back on the lips, hard. We continued for while longer as I relished in the feeling of having our lips merged. She was leant over me and her hair tickled my neck. When we finally pulled apart she chuckled lightly and said, "Well somebody slept well."

I grinned back, acknowledging that I did in fact sleep well, and ran my fingers through my hair. I hadn't slept that well in a long time.

Why are you so ridiculously attractive? I suddenly heard Rey think to herself and froze. She looked down at me, from where she now sat, her legs straddling my stomach and her cheeks turned bright pink. My grin widened and I placed my hands on her hips.

"So you think I'm attractive?" I teased her, staring as she tried to avoid eye contact. She was wearing dark red underwear and nothing else. When I took off her clothes to clean her wounds I had to take off her bra, so she wasn't wearing that either. I had a spectacular view.
My fingers made their way upwards from her hips slowly, carefully avoiding sensitive patches. She arched her back and moaned softly, closing her eyes, an image of her that stayed in my mind for a long time.

"Maybe." she said, a twinkle in her eye. Then she sprung off me and clambered out of the bed, taking the sheets with her.

"I don't understand. So why didn't we just use your ship when we were on Akiva?"

"Like I said, the outpost was better equipped." Actually my ship was one of the most advanced models, but it only had one bed.

"I see." she said. Rey and I were now both fully dressed, having eaten the last of the food supplies (Rey ate a lot more than me), and sat in the copilot and pilot seats of the cockpit. The galaxy stretched out before us, deep and endless, as the ship drifted slowly.

"So, where to Captain?" Rey interjected, spinning her seat around to face me. She'd braided her hair back and had some of my old clothes on. Black suited her.

"Well." I paused, my mind catching up with the question. I thought about returning to Akiva to finish our training, but it was several star systems away, and I doubted we'd get much training done anyway. For some odd reason, the thought of going back to the First Order flickered through my mind but I dismissed it immediately. Then I remembered the transmission I had intercepted between Hux and the droid. They seemed to be preparing for battle, perhaps against the Resistance. I wondered who Snoke would choose to replace Hux.

"Kylo, what's wrong?" Rey sounded concerned and I realised that I had not yet answered her question.

"We have to find out what the First Order is planning." I said to her. She nodded. "And that means we have to find the Resistance."

I froze. "Why?"

"Well for one they would have intel on what is going on, plus their fighters and equipment would come in handy, and I wouldn't mind--"

I stood up suddenly cutting her off mid sentence. She looked up at me with a confused expression.

"I can't."

"Of course you can." she replied, a nervous smile flickering across her face.

"No Rey, I can't." Then I turned abruptly and left the cockpit, I needed to think. Rey followed me down to the small cargo hold at the back of the ship, where she found me sitting on the floor, my back against a crate. She slid down silently beside me. There was a long pause.

"They won't want me there." I said.

"What? Of course they will. We need all the help we can get."

"Look me in the eyes and tell me that."I said. Rey glanced at me and looked away uncomfortably. Then she turned back and said, "But since when did you care about other people's opinions?"

"I just don't want to go where I'm not wanted." I stated, staring at the dull metal floor.

"Is this about your mother?"

Surprised by this question, I looked at her. Either she'd read my thoughts or she was just really good at reading people. I sighed and gave a stiff nod. She placed a hand on my leg. "She doesn't hate you."

"How do you know?" I asked. "Because I've spoken to her, and I know that all she really wants is for you to come back." Her tone was reassuring.

"And besides, if you really don't like it, we could always run off to some random planet somewhere. I heard Alderaan has great mountains." I couldn't help but smile at her high spirits.

"So is that a yes?"

"To going to the Resistance or running off with you?"

"The Resistance." she replied, rolling her eyes playfully. I thought for a moment.

"Okay."

"Okay?"

"Yes, let's go."

Rey's entire face lit up and she jumped up from her seated position in excitement. In her mind I could see the faces of people, most likely from the Resistance, who she longed to see. My mother was among them.

"What?" she asked , tilting her head to the side, her face still glowing. I realised that I'd been staring at her the whole time.

I smiled and shook my head. "Just can't believe that you're mine."
