Through the Years

1- The Flashback

We fly over a neighborhood as we hear the sound of laughing. We begin to approach a house in the neighborhood. We end up outside, in the backyard of Kayla Anderson's house.

We see Kayla and her friends sitting outside on the porch laughing after Amy told a story. Along with Kayla and Amy are Cassandra, Sam, Jackie and Jackie's twin, Ariana. All of the girls are 18 years old.

Jackie: "Or remember the time Amy walked into the mirror in your hallway."

Amy: "I thought the hallway was longer, I'm sorry!"

Kayla: "You didn't see your reflection in the mirror?"

Everyone laughs as Amy tries to sit there angry for everyone making fun of her, but soon starts laughing.

Ariana: "What do you think will happen to all of us when we leave tomorrow?"

The girls stop laughing. Everyone looks at Ariana and the girls are quiet for a couple of seconds.

Kayla: "What do you mean?"

Ariana: "We are all leaving for college tomorrow. How are we going to stay as close as we are now?"

Jackie: "Oh, not this again!"

Sam: "Ari, there is always texting or phone calls. I mean it's not like we're going to be some where with NO cell service."

Cassandra: "AND there is always Skype and school breaks. It won't be any different from that summer you and Jackie spent in Europe with your family."

Ariana: "But that was summer, we didn't have homework or other commitments. We had all the free time in the world. It's going to be so different."

All the girls look at one another and realize Ariana is right. Kayla gets up from the table with a smile on her face and starts doing something on her phone.

Kayla: "Come on, everyone get up. Sit on the rail over there."

Cassandra: "Kayla, what are you doing?"

Kayla: "We are going to take a picture together like we always do. Even though it's normally taken on the first day of school...whatever, just make up a pose."

All of the girls smile and get up from where they are sitting. As Kayla sets the timer on her phone for the camera, the girls come up with a pose. The flash goes off and we see  Kayla, now 28, waking up from her dream. The sunlight is coming through the bedroom window and shining on Kayla's face. She looks at her clock on her night stand, which reads 9:30am. She then turns on her back and looks to the other side of the bed, which is empty. Kayla takes a deep breath in.

Kayla: "It was only a dream."

Kayla gets out of bed, wearing an over-sized t-shirt. She slips on her slippers and walks into the bathroom.

She take a shower and brush her teeth, getting ready for her day. She slips on her bra and underwear then puts on her robe and slippers and makes her way downstairs.

Kayla hears Cameron, her boyfriend, whispering downstairs in the living room as she walks down the stairs. She stops on the stairway when she hears a second voice coming from the living room. Kayla decides to stand on the stair case and listen to Cameron's conversation.
