Through the Years

5- Two Months Later

It is now December. A black car pulls into the driveway of a nice suburban house. As the car stops the passenger doors open, Kayla and Cameron get out of the car as the driver gets their luggage. We see Kayla's mom, Lisa, run out of the house and give her daughter a hug. Cameron pays the driver and heads into the house behind Kayla and Lisa with their luggage.

Cameron goes to set their luggage in Kayla's old bedroom as Kayla goes to say hi to her dad, Aaron. Cameron comes back into the living room and gives Aaron a firm handshake. Kayla takes off her coat and jumps onto the couch next to the fireplace trying to get warm.

Kayla: "Ugh, I can't stand this cold weather. Another reason why I moved to California."

Aaron: "It's all in your head Kayla. This weather is amazing."

Cameron: "It gets cold in California too, Ace."

Kayla: "Yeah, but over there it's not this bad. There's supposed to be a snow storm coming tomorrow too."

Cameron: "I've never seen snow before!"

Aaron: "What can I get you to drink Cam?"

Cameron: "Water's fine for now, thanks Mr. Anderson."

Lisa: "What are you guys going to do while you're here, since you're not going to the reunion?"

Cameron: "I don't know. I figured we could go out and see some stuff in New York City, like the tree or go shopping in Bryant Park. Kayla always talks about how much she loves the city during the holiday season."

Kayla: "If it snows we could go snow-tubing!"

Cameron: "Yes! I've always wanted to do that."

Lisa: "Well, it sounds like you guys have a couple things in mind. Maybe we could all go out to dinner too. I can invite Karen and the kids if you like Kayla, you haven't seen them in a while."

Kayla: "Sure mom, that sounds good."

Cameron: "Hey Mr. Anderson can I talk to you for a minute? I have a question for you-"

We see Aaron and Cameron walking into another room in the house and start whispering. We hear the sound of Kayla's phone start ringing. Kayla rummages through her purse before finding her phone. She sees Sarah is calling her and answers the phone while looking at Cameron.

Kayla: "Hey Sarah."

Sarah: "Kayla! Hey! I'm sorry to have to do this to you, but you and Cam have to go to the reunion."

Kayla is looking at Cameron and her dad in a questionable manner as they quiet chat.

Kayla: "What..why?"

Sarah: "Look, we don't know who talked to the press, but someone told them you rudely declined the invitation to the reunion. The source said you bitched out the person over the phone and said they were lucky to even get a response back."

Kayla: "Are you kidding me! I didn't even respond. You did!"

Sarah: "Kay, I'm sorry, but management is making you go. It's mainly as a PR stunt. You don't even have to stay the entire time, just an hour or two."

Kayla: "AN HOUR OR TWO?! Sarah come on. I'm with my family."

Sarah: "Kayla I'm sorry, but it's for your career and reputation. You're going makes the whole article false."

Kayla: "But-"

Sarah: "No buts Kayla. I am on my way over with a dress for you and a suit for Cameron. I called the person who is in charge of the event and she has spaces open for you both. I will see you in 45 minutes."

Sarah hangs up the phone leaving Kayla to stare blankly at her parents and Cameron. Cameron and Aaron come back into the living room.

Cameron: "What was that about?"

Kayla: "Apparently WE have to go to the reunion for a couple hours...just for a PR thing."

Cameron: "What?"

Kayla: "I'll explain it to you on the way. Sarah is coming over with a suit for you and a dress for me."

Kayla gets up from her couch. Aaron gives Kayla a kiss on her forehead and a hug as she passes him. She breaks away from the hug and leaves the room.
