Hello again.

I forgot to mention this in the last chapter, but this story is going to be long. I intend to cover all seasons of Haikyuu, adding in some extra scenes while deleting a few if it doesn't work with the story plot or takes up too much text. Most likely, this book will just be season 1. How the other seasons work depends, but I'm just focusing on season 1 for now. I probably should tag this as slow burn since it will take a while for the main plot development to happen.

Enjoy.

Chapter 8: The Match - Part 2

"Nice receive."

"Left!"

"Two blockers!"

"Nice kill!"

The game had been going on normally with nothing particularly special. The first years were surprised and slightly alarmed at how skilled the Volleyball team was, though. Daichi's defensive skill was impeccable. He was the one receiving the most for his team; especially Kageyama's serves. That surprised Hinata greatly. However, Daichi wasn't the only skillful one there. Suga's tosses and technique didn't go unnoticed by Kageyama, especially his decision making. They usually had two Spikers running up, confusing the first years when trying to block; Sugawara's decision in who to send the toss to helped further in shaking off the Blockers. Though it was commendable and much to the interest of Kageyama, he was beginning to figure out how to read it. Despite that, the strength behind the Spikers spikes helped make up for that, Tanaka's especially. The power he used surprised the first years and made them struggle at first, but they eventually got used to it. Narita's blocks were also something to be wary of, since he got a number of good shut downs.

Even though their skill and strength were a little overwhelming, the first years were holding up a pretty good fight. Kageyama gave simpler tosses to Tsukishima and Yamaguchi to spike, to which earned them quite a number of points. Of course, he'd do that insane quick with Hinata whenever he found a good opportunity. They would have at least two Spikers running up to try and confuse their upperclassmen. Seeing Hinata jump so high did surprise everyone who hadn't seen him play in that Junior High match. Kiyoko's and Takeda's expressions were particularly funny. The former dropped the whistle in her mouth while the latter seemed to have almost fallen off his seat. Kageyama just smiled in amusement. Of course, it didn't exactly look like a smile. It just looked like another scowl to everyone else which was proven when Takeda seemed to stiffen, confused if he did anything wrong. Seeing this, Kageyama dropped his smile, turning back to the game. This just made Takeda even more confused. He really needed to talk to Daichi.

Since their playing styles we're pretty similar, the game kept going back and forth. They were currently nearing the end of their first set. The score was 20-21, with the third years and second years' team in the lead.

"Dang. This match is pretty even." Kinoshita comments as he lifts one of the cards on the point rack at the sound of Kiyoko's whistle. Make that 20-22.

There's another blow of the whistle.

"Yeah, you're right." Ennoshita agrees with him as he flips the other side of the rack. 21-22. "However, it looks like our team's gonna get the first set."

They turn back to the game to see Tsukki serve the ball to the middle, getting received by Kinoshita. It's slightly shorter than an A pass, but Suga gets under it anyways.

"Right!" calls Daichi as he runs up to spike, Tanka doing the same on the left. Hinata and Kageyama stand together near the net, unsure of who to block. They decide to split up and divide themselves so that there's at least one blocker on each Spiker. Just as Kageyama jumps, the ball gets set to Kinoshita who ran up in the center. His hand makes contact with the ball and spikes it, but is surprised to find Hinata suddenly there. He blocks the ball, getting a successful one touch in. The ball flies in Yamaguchi's general direction. He receives it with a little difficulty, but sends it in Kageyama's direction none the less.
