A year passed since the oldest sons had passed away, and everything went back to normal, although the house felt empty. There was no yelling in the mornings, no fighting over who was going to drive, no calls reporting that the two had started a physical fight with each other, and Wiz was now found practically clinging to Daisuke.
Today Daisuke was trying to get Wiz to properly say his name. Normally, Wiz just called him “Dai” or “Nii-chan”, but Daisuke decided that Wiz should at least know the pronunciation of his actual name.
“No, Wiz! Daisuke! You know it’s not Daisuki!” The fourteen year old was losing patience and hope. Wiz seemed to be trying his best, but it also seemed like he was purposefully bothering his older brother. Daisuke suspected Wiz remembered his pathetic attempts to get the girl of his dreams to notice him, and this was reflected in his speech.
“Daisuki!” Wiz tried, looking very frustrated with the word. Daisuke sighed in resignation, like he did everyday.
“Alright Wiz, nevermind, I’m Nii-chan.”
“Nii-chan! Nii-chan!” Wiz cheered, skipping around.
“Yeah, that’s me…”
Wiz stopped his jumping and looked at Daisuke seriously. “Nii-chan.’
“What is it?”
“We need strawberries.”
Of course. Wiz ate more than Daisuke ever could, and Wiz was constantly requesting food, particularly strawberries.
“There are strawberries in the fridge, Wiz.”
“Can I have some? Please?”
“... Alright, just a few.”
He nearly dropped the bowl as he was setting it on the table. Something felt different. Daisuke felt odd, and he could feel a chill.
“Nii-chan?”
“I’m fine Wiz. I’ll be back, I’m going to my room for a second. Just enjoy your strawberries.” Daisuke slowly made his way up the stairs, feeling that something was incredibly wrong.
He nearly collapsed once he made it into his room. He felt light headed, and there was a chill up his spine. Although he felt so incredibly weird and uncomfortable, there was a warmth in his heart, the one positive feeling he had at the moment. His stomach churned, his legs were weak, and he felt shaky over all. He ended up on his hands and knees before he could make it to the balcony, his intended destination.
“Daisuke! You don’t look so good.” A confident, and familiar voice greeted, and Daisuke felt his face grow cold.
It couldn’t be.
Daisuke slowly stopped shaking, his stomach calmed, and he just started feeling better in general. He looked up slowly in disbelief, and his eyes widened.
“Dark?”
