“It has been a very long, excruciating, and frustrating year.” Krad growled to himself, for the millionth time that day. A grin began to creep upon his lips. “That’s no matter. Soon, my pesky twin will be out of the way, and if I’m lucky, my prey will be mine. I might even get rid of those annoying step brothers of mine.”

Krad didn’t normally grow attached to people, and his family was no exception. He loved pointing out that he wasn’t related to the Niwas, and he always dodged the fact that Dark wasn’t just a relative, that he wasn’t just his brother, but that he was his twin. Whenever he could, he tried to play Dark off as from a different family, or just absolutely related to the Niwas. For as long as he could remember, Krad had planned to escape his wretched ‘family’.

And now he finally made it.

Sure, it had taken a lot of hard work. Yes, for the first month he had dealt with nothing but torture, but the Dark Lord had seen Krad’s anger and loathing for his own kin. He had seen Krad’s worst thoughts. Even Krad’s best thoughts involving his twin weren’t incredibly positive. Of the three he called brother, Dark was the only one he refused to help, even if things got rough for him. Sure, he might pity Daisuke, or Wiz, but Dark? Not likely. In fact, the main reason he ever helped Daisuke or Wiz was because his prey cared about them. He needed them to get to his prey. It was as simple as that.

“The angel has descended.” A smooth voice called, mischief and malice in her voice. Of course she was here.

“Has he now? Then I assume I  shall be ascending?” He replied calmly, watching his trap play out. He had set out a trap for the weaker, dumber demons, and it humoured him to watch them writhe in agony as they tried to get their prize, only to learn there was punishment at the end. How foolish could they be? This, of course, was one of his less malicious traps. Some of his favourites involved slow, painful deaths. They would come back, as they always did, but there wasn’t really anything down there that would stay dead, now was there?

“Not quite yet, be patient.”

“Tch. Why not?” He continued to watch, without looking at his mentor. His white feathers, which contrasted highly against the sinister background with their pure look, ruffled ever so slightly.

“Because your prey  isn’t cooperating, that’s why. He’s not vulnerable yet.”

“Then why hasn’t he been made vulnerable? I requested that he’d be a ready vessel before that idiot got to Earth!”

“Excuse you, but you’re not really in charge, are you? Besides, you chose a stubborn one. The chances of him becoming vulnerable enough for you to at least slightly corrupt him with ease are low.” Her mint eyes narrowed as she glared at her pupil. His self importance was something she wanted to break, but as a fellow hex, she was denied this. In her opinion, the Dark Prince needed to rethink some of these rules.

“Then why don’t I go up there myself and fix the problem?”

“Because you’re unauthorized, hot shot.”

Krad turned around to properly argue with his teacher, but when he looked, she was gone. Curse her.

He muttered to himself in agitation. “You will help me, whether you like it or not, Satoshi Hiwatari.”
