Dark continued to inhabit Daisuke’s bed, not feeling like getting up. Through closed eyes, he could tell a bright light flashed in the room. However, he didn’t think much of it, he just assumed Emiko had walked in, opened the window, remembered something, and quickly closed the window. She was extremely forgetful, and he had Daisuke to prove it.
“Is this really how you think protection works? Laying around, making a nest out of your brother’s bed? Get up and watch him, at least from above.” A familiar, judgemental voice lectured. Of course. Dark debated pretending that he didn’t hear him, and continue sleeping, but knowing his mentor, he wouldn’t get away with it.
“Dunno how t’ get back.” He mumbled, still not wanting to leave the bed. “‘Sides, ‘s not like he begged me t’ come with him.”
“Regardless of whether or not he asked you to follow, it’s your responsibility. Now get up and do something useful.”
“I am being useful. ‘M keepin’ the bed warm. ‘S an important job.”
“I hate to break it to you kid, but I’m pretty sure the bed isn’t being affected by you. At all. You’ve yet to take a physical form. An important job would be watching your brother. Now get up.”
Dark groaned in response. “Wha’s he gonna do? ‘S not like anythin’ ‘s gonna attack him while he’s at school.”
“And what if something does attack him while he’s at school?”
“I’ll go save him, ‘f course. I at least know how t’ get there in, like, no seconds flat.”
“You know, you use the exact technique to get back to heaven.”
“... Seriously? But I thought that since it was a little different t’ get here, it’d be a little different t’ get there.”
“Not really. Now, get up.”
“But it’s comfy here. And Daisuke’s safe. ‘Sides, ‘m pretty sure angels have some sort of, like, angel sense when someone's in trouble.”
“They do, but if you’re sleeping, you’ll probably miss it. Get up, and properly take care of that kid.” This is exactly why he didn’t like working with the ones that were eternal teenagers. All they wanted was to do what they want, like sleep, and joke around.
Dark thought about it. Yes, he didn’t really need sleep. No, he didn’t like hanging around places when it was bright. Yes, he cared about Daisuke. No, he didn’t want Daisuke to get seriously hurt. Deciding Daisuke’s logic had won, not his mentor’s Dark promptly poofed away, back to heaven.
Looking at where his disciple had just been laying, the older angel huffed in slight approval, slight agitation. “That’s what I thought.”
