A year passed, and Dark had been training. He only guessed that Krad was fortunate enough to be training too, after all, it wasn’t common that someone on that side of the afterlife was safe from torture. Dark wandered in his thoughts, trying to figure out what became of his twin.

Sure, Dark had managed to be good enough to be a literal angel, but there was no way Krad was so bad that he could become a demon, right? Dark had mixed emotions about all of the possibilities the world had for his brother.

As Dark fought the fake demons in one of Heaven’s many training centers, another angel approached him. The angel was old, not physically, but by looking at the patterns on his cuffs, it was obvious.

The cuffs were dotted in little sapphires and carved patterns wrapped around the gold protecting the angel’s wrists. “Dark.” He said in a commanding voice, catching the younger angel’s attention. “I need to talk to you.”

Dark followed reluctantly. He didn’t know how he managed to be an angel. He had a problem with authority and one of his favourite things was stealing things from those who believed he couldn’t manage it. Of course, Dark warned them first, and unlike Krad, he never planned mass murder.

“As you know, you’ve been training nearly nonstop for a year, learning magic, flying, recognising demons, and other important things. Now, you’ve been assigned a mission.”

“A mission?” Dark interrupted. He knew better, but curiosity got the best of him. “It’s only been a year though. I thought I’d have to wait a century before I was trusted with something like this.”

“Well, you do show potential, and learning on the job seems to be a preference of yours. You will be watched, however. You are a beginner, and the mission is important. You see, you’ll be taking over watch for someone. As in, you’re mostly going to be replacing someone’s guardian angel. Something big is going to happen to them, and we’ve decided you should be involved.”

“We?”

“All of the highest leveled angels. Now, get ready.”

“Get ready?”

“Yes. Your ride’s here.”

A beam of light suddenly engulfed the young black-winged angel, and pulled him away from the heavens, down to Earth.

Then Dark saw them. His little brothers. Daisuke was practically begging Wiz to say his name, and Wiz was struggling with the last syllable. Dark watched as Daisuke eventually quit. As Daisuke began to give the bowl of strawberries to the always hungry child, Dark remembered why he was there.

“Daisuke! Daisuke, I’m here!” He said, as he grabbed the redhead’s shoulder. Daisuke nearly dropped the bowl, and Dark worried that he scared him too much. After all, wasn’t Dark dead for a year? Who could just adjust to that quickly?

Dark followed as Daisuke went to his room. Clearly, he didn’t notice him the first time. “Daisuke! Listen to me! Something important is going to happen, so listen!” Daisuke still didn’t hear him.

Daisuke collapsed, and Dark gave up on worrying. “Daisuke! You don’t look so good.” He tried. It was more subtle than trying to tell him something would change Daisuke’s life even more.

That’s when Daisuke looked up at him.

“Dark?”
