Mike Wheeler was your typical small town guy. He had lots of friends, knew everyone in Hawkins and rode his bike everywhere.
His friends, Lucas, Dustin, Will and Max, were the ones whom he spent his time with the most. They loved to go to the arcade, to ride their bikes (and Max to ride her skateboard) and spend their days at the spot they created in the middle of the forest next to Will's house.
Mike had his life basically figured out. He would finish high school in 2 years and then work for his dad's business. He would end up meeting someone and start a family but that was irrelevant to him. All he wanted was to spend time with his buddies and enjoy his teenage life.
All of these ideas for his future changed when she arrived.
