"Dinner, you mean?" Torrence corrected her and pulled out a tray from the oven. The scent instantly hit Olivia. Her mouth began to water and her stomach clenched in anticipation, it was her favorite meal, her grandmother used to make it all the time when she was younger. "I have prepared for you; some salmon; seasoned with lemon juice, avocado and a few other things" he chuckled as he saw Olivia staring hungrily at the dish in his hands. "I can bring it over if you want" he teased and set the dish on the table. He served One of the flays onto her plate and then served himself.
"This is really good" Olivia commented as she took her fist bite. She smiled shyly as Torrence took his first bite.
"When was the last time you ate?" he asked with concern.
Olivia paused and swallowed the bite she had in her mouth. "well..." she started and gave a single embarrassed chuckle. "I. . . um." She looked down at her food and started to put some food onto her fork. "I had eaten dinner the day you found me" she lied and slowly shoveled another bite into her mouth. I don't deserve food like this, she told herself.
Torrence gave a slight cocky smile, "you just gave yourself away, you know," he commented.
Olivia looked up confused. "What do you mean?" She asked.
"Well, when someone who isn't good at lying, lies, they do something subtle to distract themselves from the fact they just lied" he explained. "One, your hesitation hinted you hadn't eaten and the lack of eye contact proved it"
Olivia looked him straight in the eyes. "I ate dinner that day" she said as confidently as she could muster then, she took a drink from her cup.
The light sparkle in Torrence's eyes disappeared and changed to a fearful fire. "When was the last time you ate?" he interrogated sternly.
Olivia sighed and set down her fork. "I hadn't eaten in two days" she confessed and nodded slightly to herself in agreement.
Torrence's eyes softened, "was it because you didn't have access to food? because you won't have to worry about that here." He tried to reassure her.
But Olivia nodded her head and picked up another bite. I am not hungry anymore but I don't think he will let me leave without eating the rest of what is on my plate. Olivia eyed Torrence and he had already finished his meal. He was watching Olivia slowly eat the rest of the food on her plate.
The rest of dinner was uncomfortably silent until Olivia had finished. "There you go" Torrence smiled proudly and pulled her empty plate from her. Their plates clinked together as he washed them in the sink.
Olivia's stomach churned and she rested her chin on the table. She didn't want to keep the food she didn't deserve and she wanted to get it out of her system before it was too late.
Torrence turned around as he dried his hands on a towel. "Ready for bed, Angel?" he chuckled at seeing Olivia seemingly tiredly resting her head on the table.
Olivia mumbled incoherently and nodded her head. Torrence walked over to her and put his hand on her back. She shot up and elbowed his arm."I told you not to touch me" she hissed.
Torrence gave her a very concerned look and pulled his arm away. "This is kind of off topic, but you look very pale. Are you okay?"
Olivia put her hands in front of her face and examined her wrists. They were so pale they could give eggs a run for their money. "Yeah I'm fine I just need to lay down" She mumbled and tried to stand up. That was a bad idea because her stomach began to churn even more.
Torrence noticed her clutching her stomach and decided it would be best if she didn't have to walk. "Don't worry, Angel, I can carry you," he informed her and remembered the first time he picked her up and how light she had been. Olivia shook her head 'no' but Torrence picked her up anyway and carried her down to her room. She tried to get him to let go but with no success until he reached the room she had woke up in earlier. Olivia was already half asleep when Torrence placed her on the bed.
She looked so peaceful as she lay there. Torrence opened the curtains and a full moon shone from outside, illuminating the room with a blue and silver hue. He turned back to Olivia and watched her sleeping figure rise and fall. Her face looked as if it had been sculpted by the gods themselves and the moon light shone off of her skin making it seem as if she was glowing. The cut on her temple hadn't calmed down, it seemed to be getting worse, but it didn't take away from her raw beauty. He sighed and sat down on the bed, casting a shadow onto her face and leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Goodnight my Angel" he whispered to her under his breath and exited the bedroom to go lay his own room.
As he laid down in his own bed he thought about how thin Olivia was. It's not natural, why does she do that to herself? perhaps she simply can't eat? Maybe she really didn't have access to food and I am making assumptions. Maybe I can I can ask her again tomorrow with more success. Torrence turned over on his pillow and sighed. He looked out the window at the stars and smiled. She is safe here, My angel is safe with me.
