I was at the bowling alley. My Grandmother, Cousin, and Great grandmother, had come from Michigan to visit for the next few weeks. Everyone was excited to meet them for the first time. They finally showed up and everyone greeted each other.
"...And this is Alex" Dad finished, pointing to the straight haired blond kid. He had been looking anywhere except for me, my brother, and my sister. Alex nodded to us and pursed his lips together. He really doesn't want to be here. "Okay guys, let's get our shoes so we can sit down. Olivia, whats your shoe size please?"
I glanced over to him "Um, i think it's a women's size 7 and a half" i replied and took a shoe off to check. "Yeah"
Dad turned and ordered my shoe size from the desk and handed me mine. He continued with the rest of the kids. I crouched down and put my shoes on as quickly as I could.
Dad finished up and led us down to our lane where our names popped up on the screen above. Alex was first, mine second, the siblings following, and the adults went last. I smiled and sat down, waiting for Alex to go then i went.
Alex sat in the chair next to mine and he turned to face me. "Hey" he stuck his hand out for a handshake "My name is Alex, whats yours?" he introduced himself.
I smiled and took his hand "I'm Olivia" I replied and released his hand.
Alex leaned really close to me and wrapped his arms around me "I like to give hugs" he explained whilst not letting go
"Uh, cool" i commented not knowing how to respond Strange kid I thought to myself. The day went on and every time Alex and I were both sitting down, he would hug me and not let go. I didn't mind much anyway, it's not like i had to go to the bathroom or anything.
Eventually towards the end of the game, my mom pulled me aside. She put her hand on my shoulder and said "Please be careful of Alex, he seems a bit clingy with you" she tried to warn me.
I nodded my head and dismissed her in my mind "Oh don't worry about him, he just likes hugs" i innocently explained.
My mom put both hands on my shoulders "Honey, he is 16, you are 13, Please be careful" she repeated.
I smiled and nodded, "Okay mom, I will" I only said that so she would leave me alone I bet everyone is waiting for me. I thought as i headed back to the group
