"C'mon" said Leo. He had been the only person who had witnessed me burn down the empty shack. "I gotta take you to the cops," he said jokingly.

"You better be joking," I warned. I knew I could burn him down in seconds.

"Oh, yeah?" he said. "Well, why don't you back that up?"

I knew I had easily killed people before, and this guy was getting on my nerves. Those I trusted knew how ruthless I could be. So I made a fireball and tossed it at him when he wasn't looking. It started burning his clothes, but for some reason, I didn't smell the familiar scent of burning flesh.

He patted it out with his bare hands without wincing.

"Hey, now that's not very nice," he said. "Trying to burn down someone you just met? You'll burn off my clothes! And trust me, I don't want to be wandering around naked."

My eyes widened. I pointed at him.

"How-why-what? How come you're not burning? It's not supposed to work that way!" I cried. He smirked at me. I flushed. I must've sounded so stupid!

"Now, now, your little fire balls don't work on me," he replied. "I'm the same as you are. Do you only have one parent, or two parents? Or-none?" His voice caught on that, full on emotion. I knew I couldn't decide to suddenly care about his well being, so I ignored that.

I made fire shoot out of my palm, and so did he. Our flames lapped at each other, trying to get past the other. Slowly, his fire went past mine, and when his was in my palm as well as I, he extinguished it and told me to do likewise. I now wondered how it was going to be possible to beat this guy.

"Well, I had both parents, but they kicked me out. Before the news casters started talking about the mutant problem, they were fine with my powers. But once the mutant problem started, they seemed to realize how dangerous I was. I was a threat to their perfect lives, apparently they thought I was a danger to their house. So, they kicked me out. I've been wandering around ever since."

He looked confused. "Hey, wait, what mutant problem? You know what, just come with me. Aina, was it? I'm taking you to a place where you can learn to control your powers with people like us. C'mon, we're going to Long Island!"
