The week dragged on at school until it was finally Friday. I tried to avoid Jerod at all costs, but he seemed to have it out for me while I was in his class. I couldn't do anything in his class without getting in trouble. Whether I was talking, not paying enough attention, not having my homework in my hand the second he asked for it. By the end of the week, I was so pissed off at him for the he acted towards me. He would treat me like crap through the entire chemistry period, then he would text me or call me and act like some super sweet boyfriend. I hadn't texted or talked to him in a couple of days now. I was mad at him for being mean to me and I didn't want to talk to him.
By Friday, I had had enough. I wasn't just going to sit back and let him yell at me for no reason. I didn't care if he was my teacher! I walked into chemistry, trying to keep a low profile. I took out my homework and put it on top of my desk, ready for him to collect it. "Alright class, please take out your homework to turn in." I flipped my paper over to turn it in, only to see three problems on the back that I didn't do. Crap. It was late when I did my homework the night before, and I hadn't even thought to look for a back to the paper. I knew 'Mr. Callahan' would have something to say about this one. He got to my desk to pick up my paper. Jerod looked down at me with a piercing gaze. I didn't know whether it pissed me off or turned me on. "Well, look at this. Did you forget about the homework Lily?"
I sighed. "No, I didn't. I just didn't know there was a back to the paper." I avoided looking at him.
"Well Lily, how come every other student in the class knew that there was a back to the paper. Every other student completed all of the problems. Was it laziness maybe?"
Okay, now I was mad. I looked up at him and gave him my sweetest smile. "Well I don't know Mr. Callahan, maybe I'm just not as smart as everyone else, maybe I should just do you and everyone else a favor and drop this stupid class. Then everyone would be happier." My tone was fake-happy and thick with sarcasm. I batted my eyes a couple of times before thrusting my paper at him.
Jerod looked at me with concern and anger in his eyes. "I'll see you after school Ms. Fox. You can keep your incomplete homework. You're going to need something to finish in detention." My mouth dropped open. I had never had a detention in my entire life and now my boyfriend was giving me my first. Several girls were shooting me evil glares. I knew that any girl in here would have paid to get to spend an hour alone after school with Jerod. He was that hot. Even though I was dating him, I was not excited at all about spending an hour alone with Jerod. He made me so mad. Why did he have to make this situation even more difficult for me?
Class ended and I got up to leave. Jerod cleared his throat. "Ms. Fox, where do you think you are going? Detention, remember?"
I whirled around to face him, Addley at my side. "Mr. Callahan, I know that you're new here, so I won't hold this one against you. School ends at 3:00. After school detentions cannot start any sooner than 3:15. You have to give the student enough time to get their stuff. It's in the handbook. Look it up!" With that, I linked my arm through Addley's and marched off towards our lockers.
"Whoa, Lily. When did the backbone come in?" She was looking at me like I had grown another head.
"I'm just sick of this. I hate him already!" I could feel my hands shaking I was so mad. At this time last week, Jerod and I had been making out on the beach. Now, I could barely stand to be around him.
"Leave it to you to fight with the coolest teacher at our school. You do know that every other girl wants to be you right now, me included. I wouldn't mind spending an hour alone with Mr. Hot Teacher." I rolled my eyes. "Do you want me to wait for you?" I groaned. Addley had driven today.
