*Clip on the side is the scene from the movie (The Notebook) that Lily talks about. My favorite movie!
The next few months went by quickly as my pregnancy progressed. By April, everyone knew about the baby and I was the talk of the school. It didn't really bother me when I walked down the hall and heard people whispering about me. The thing that I hated the most was how much Jerod and I had grown apart since I told him that I was pregnant. He was being more supportive than before, but we really weren't spending much time together anymore. We still argued constantly about what the best decision for our baby was. Jerod thought we should place the child up for adoption and I wanted to keep it.
Prom was also coming up in the next two weeks and I still needed to get my dress altered so it wasn't too tight on my belly and too loose everywhere else. My dress was dark purple and the skirt had pick ups on the bottom. There was a group of sequins and crystals under the bust and the skirt was poofy. I was going with Austin again this year and Addley and Luke were going together again. Except this time, they were going as a couple and not just friends. The guys had come around to my pregnancy and were helping me a lot.
My parents were also coming around. I had gotten a job and my parents let me go to work after school every day, even though I was supposed to be at home all of the time. They were also letting me go to prom, which was a huge step in the right direction. My mom and Carissa were planning Carissa and Scott's, which was set for August. I also had a hunch that Addley was planning a baby shower for me. Things were finally starting too look up after months of things being bad.
In the middle of the day, I came to the realization that I had to talk to Jerod. I had to figure out what was going on between us and what our plans were moving foward. When the bell rang for lunch, I told my friends that I wasn't eating and went to find Jerod. I knocked on his door twice before going in. He was grading papers and he turned to look up at the noise. He smiled when he saw me. "Hey."
I smiled, relieved that he looked happy to see me. "Hey." He put his pen down and I sat in one of the desks in the front row. "I think that we a have a lot to discuss." His smile fell and I felt bad for creating tension.
"Is everything okay? Is something wrong with you or the baby?" He looked concerned.
I held up my hands. "No, no. Nothing like that. We are both just fine. I just think we need to discuss where we're going from here."
He gave me a confused look. "What do you mean?" He walked over to me and sat down in the desk next to mine.
I turned to face him. "I mean that we need to figure out what's going on with us. We're doing better, but we need to figure out what our plans are for the future. I mean, I'm not going to be pregnant or in high school forever." I put my hands on my growing belly. "We need to have a plan before the baby comes."
He sighed and looked over at me. "Do you have a plan in mind? I still don't know how we're going to do it. You want to go to college and I don't know how that's going to work if we have a baby. I mean, I can't exactly quit teaching and take care of a child." He looked down at his hands.
"Jerod, you keep saying 'if' we have a baby. There is no if about it. This baby is coming whether you are ready or not. I'm due in September and once September comes around, there is no turning back." I looked over at him. He looked tired.
"I don't know what you want me to do Lily. What am I supposed to say? Do you want me to tell you that we'll work it out? Do you want me to say that everything will be okay? Because none of that is true. It's not going to be okay. I don't think that we can raise a baby right now. If either of us want to have a future, we can't keep this baby." I looked at him, ready to cry because I knew that he might be right, but I knew what I wanted and I wasn't backing down. He grabbed my hand. "I think that we should place the baby up for adoption."
