My dad jumped up. "Who's the father? I'll kill him!" My mom grabbed his arm and pulled him back down to the couch.
"Settle down Richard. You're not killing anyone." She turned back to me with a disappointed look on her face. "Lily, when, why?" Her voice was full of emotion and I felt terrible.
"The father is a guy from school. It was just a stupid thing that happened and turned out a lot worse than we expected." That was a complete lie. I wanted to tell them so badly that Jerod was the father of my child and that I loved him, but I couldn't do that quite yet. I squeezed Carissa's hand, trying to get through this.
"Have you thought about your options?" My mom wasn't yelling and she wasn't crying. She was just being calm and talking to me. My dad was seething with anger, but hadn't said anything to me yet.
I nodded. "I want to keep it Mom." I placed my hands on my flat stomach. There were no signs of a baby yet, but I knew that a bump would be growing very soon. "I just don't know if I could give my baby to another person."
Tears started to run down my mom's face, causing me to start crying. "Lily. I want you to know that I am very dissapointed in you. I can not believe that you did something like this. How you could be this irresponsible, I don't know. However, I am not going to scream or yell at you. You are 18 years old, but you live in our house and you are still in high school. You are to be home after school every day from now until I let you know. You are going to have to work your butt off to regain our trust. I also want you to know that I am here for you. I have had two children and I can help you through your pregnancy. Now I think it's best if you go upstairs while your father and I talk." Her tone was stern, like she wanted to yell, but was holding it down. I nodded and made my way upstairs with Carissa behind me.
I flopped down on my bed and started crying. Carissa rubbed my hair and talked to me in a soothing voice. "It's going to be okay, Lily. They reacted a lot better than I expected they would. And they didn't drill you about the father like I thought Dad would." She patted my back.
I looked up through the tears at my sister. "Carissa, what if Jerod leaves me? I don't know how I can do this on my own." She patted my back.
"Jerod is not going to leave you. He just needs time to let everything sink in and he'll come around." She sounded unsure, although she tried to hide it.
"I don't know. When we were at his apartment, he kept asking me what I was going to do with my baby and he told me that he couldn't be a parent. I wasn't the only one who had a part in making this baby. I don't expect him to be excited, no one is excited about this. But I don't expect him to blame me for something that we both did." I buried my face back into my blanket.
"If he keeps this up I want you to tell me. I don't want him to treat you like he had nothing to do with it. I know Jerod pretty well. I'm sure he'll come around if you just give him some time. I know that doesn't seem fair, but I'm sure he's in shock right now. It may not seem like it right now, but everything will fall into place." She kissed my head. "I should probably get going. I have to work early tomorrow and you have school. I love you Lily. I'm here for you and your baby."
I looked up. "I love you too Carissa. Thank you." She smiled at me and left my room. My head hit my pillow again. I didn't even bother to change my clothes or brush my teeth. All I wanted to do was fall asleep.
The next day during lunch, I sat down with Luke, Austin, and Addley, and I knew that I had to come clean to them about everything. I faced my best friends and knew that they would be upset, but supportive. I took a shaky breath. "Okay, I have two big bombs to drop on you guys. Addley already knows, so don't be surprised when she doesn't freak out. I need you guys to keep your voices down when I tell you, because no one can know." I took another deep breath. "You know that guy, Jerod that I have been seeing since summer?" They both nodded. I leaned in and whispered, "Jerod's last name is Callahan. Jerod is Mr. Callahan."
Austin's eyes went wide and I was worried he would yell. Luke had his arm wrapped around Addley and she grabbed his hand and whispered to him to not freak out. Austin looked at me in shock. "Are you serious Lily? So you've been dating a teacher since the summer?" he was whispering to me angrily.
I nodded. "We broke up for like a week, and we got back together after you left that party that we went to."
He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Why are you just telling us this now?" Austin looked like he had a million emotions running through his mind right now.
I took a deep, shaky breath. "Well, I'm sure you both know that our relationship isn't exactly seen as okay. I didn't want to tell a lot of people. But I need you guys to know about the relationship, because there is something else I need to tell you two."
Luke looked at me with a sympathetic expression. "It's okay Lily, just tell us. We're not going to get mad. Are we Austin?" He looked over and gave Austin a warning look, and he shook his head.
"Okay, when I missed school last week because I was sick, I found out that I wasn't actually sick. I'm pregnant." They both looked at each other and than back at me. This time, Luke and Austin both looked mad.
"I'll kill him." Luke said, pulling away from Addley. I had never seen Luke this mad. He was usually the laid back fun guy who really didn't take anything to heart. Addley grabbed her boyfriend's arm, sitting him down.
"You two have to calm down. You can't say anything to Mr. Callahan or anyone else. You also can't treat him any differently. I want you two to act like nothing is different when we are in his class. You have to promise me guys. If anyone finds out about this, then we would both be in huge trouble." I looked down. "I don't need anymore problems right now."
They looked at each other and reluctantly nodded. Austin sighed. "Alright, we'll be good. But if you need anything, we're here." I nodded, glad to have their support.
