4. First Day

Last night, Jungkook prepared one of the best meals in their life. That is according to Jisoo. Honestly, she and her sister were starting to forget about the taste of certain dishes that their deceased father prepared.

Jungkook was prepared that morning. He arrived fifteen minutes before he needed to be there. A suitcase in his hand and a box in his car full of other "essentials" that he always needed with him. He knew this would be his new home for—who knows how long.

There was a room on the first floor for him. It was near the kitchen which wasn't a good thing but maybe it was. He liked to snack most nights or anytime of day. Everything about this house was spacious and it looked bigger on the inside than on the outside.

The children were sleeping. Jungkook had to get Jisoo ready for school. Also, prepare breakfast for them. Then wake up the other two. Did it matter in what order he did it? This was frustrating because he wanted things to go smoothly. This was his first day but it didn't mean he couldn't be fired. The problem was that he, himself, didn't have a morning routine. How do parents do this, he questioned.

First, he got Jisoo up so she could get ready for school. Jungkook had picked out Jisoo's clothes for the day. Her backpack was in a chair. He let Jisoo shower while he went downstairs to set up the coffee maker and breakfast. Somehow, he hoped that doing this wouldn't take away time. His own mother always did this.

What else did his mother do? The smell of coffee started taking over the kitchen. He checked his watch and it was probably about time to get up Rose, then the baby. First, he had to make sure that Jisoo came down to eat her breakfast and everything dangerous was out of reach.

Jungkook had pancakes, eggs, and bacon done. Which he puts in a plate and turns off the stove. Trying to think of everything that needed to be done for child safety. He puts the food in the microwave to keep it warm.

When he's done there, he knows it's time to go back upstairs. There was not much to do except wake up the children. Jungkook runs upstairs. He sees Jisoo is dressed and needs some help.

The child is struggling with her hair. Jungkook knocks and comes in. The child looks at him confused. He takes the brush and untangles her hair. She doesn't say anything but appreciates the gesture. She was pleasantly surprised by the young man deciding to help. Both of them smile at each other, as they look in the mirror.

This brings Jungkook to the memories when his mother would come brush his hair and style it. He remembers how this was one of the few times his mother and him enjoyed each other's company. How he felt relaxed as his mother played with his hair. Things were simpler then.

Jungkookie finished the fish braid. A braid he learned from watching some YouTube tutorials. He kisses the top of Jisoo's head. Something in him made him do it. Jungkook smiled resting his head on top of Jisoo's. Jisoo didn't know what it was about Jungkook that made her feel calm and as if things would be okay. Jungkook proved that he could bring security that Jisoo only felt with her parents.

Jin was there to witness this and he shook his head in disbelief; at the same time, he was happy his daughter had experienced this. It should be him, as the parent, to do this but he neglected those duties. It wasn't that Jin didn't care but work provided for his family. He made one possible good choice for them—Jungkook wasn't a bad choice. Jin would see how the rest of the day went.

"Jisoo, let's go get you breakfast."

Jungkook removes himself. He isn't sure what took over him to act fatherly or loving towards the child. He barely knew Jisoo. He probably made the child uncomfortable with his gesture.
