5. Family Man

"Jisoo, please stop running off," Jungkook demands. He didn't want to yell at them. It was hard not to scream or yell. He had to have patience.

"Is everything okay?" The voice of Mister Kim makes him whip his head in his direction. It actually hurt Jungkook. He was never sure when Jin would be back but it was most likely sometime after supper. That was usually the time he would show up from work.

"Papa!" Jisoo yells and jumps on him.

"Hello, sweetie." He kisses her head. Jungkook didn't say anything and continued to cook their supper.

"Papa!" Rose tugs her father's pants.

"Of course, darling." He picks her up making her giggle. Both girls in his arms. He kissed them both contently. Jungkook decided to concentrate on the meal because it felt like he was prying.

"How was your day?" He asks.

Jungkook had the need to run from there. Mister Kim made him nervous like no other. This feeling that somehow made him feel as if he needed to escape himself. Like run from his own body. It's just a feeling so intense which he felt and was unable to comprehend.

"Do you plan to answer my question?" Jin asks again. Only then he realizes Jin was addressing him.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Jungkook blushes. "I thought you were talking to the girls."

"You're in trouble with papa." Jisoo giggles. She thinks it might be the funniest thing she's seen.

"Is he?" Rose asks her father confused, as to why. He wasn't part of their family. Their father didn't say he would be their brother. Jungkook was just their nanny, their Kookie.

"No, he's not." Jin couldn't help but blush. It's not like he was old enough to "father" him.

"Would you like some assistance?" He asks setting the girls down.

"I think, I'm good. You can look out after the girls? Tae is taking a nap." He continues making himself look busy even though it was a simple recipe. It made him nervous having Jin there. It was so unnatural. It might be because Jin was his boss.

"Tae?" Jin pronounced as if it was two syllables. He hummed in approval. He sat down on the table with Rose who was coloring there.

Jungkook cursed mentally. This was going to be interesting. He hoped not to make a fool of himself. Jungkook was more aware of his body movements: which was liable to make him clumsy.

"Kookie, can you help me again with my homework?" Jisoo asked standing a few feet from him. She started to call him Kookie. He didn't mind the nickname; it was cute.

"Why don't you ask your papa?" He looked at the girl.

"Because you know it. And papa is with Rose." Jungkook looked up to see that Jin was coloring with Rose.

"I'm sure if you asked him, he'd be glad to help you out. You go over there and ask your papa if he can help you. If he can't, I will after we eat supper. Then we'll get you ready for bed. How's that sound?"

"You'll brush my hair and sing me a song?" She smiles until her eyes crinkled making her cute nose scrunch up.

"Promise. Cross my heart." He crossed his heart.

"Yeah," she chirped happily. She skipped over to her father.

Jin couldn't help but smirk. It was a kind gesture on Jungkook's behalf. He knew Jisoo could get ready herself and she could've asked him first about the homework. Jin was proud to say that Jungkook had gained the trust and respect of the children.

He proceeded to help his child with homework. He occasionally complimented Rose on her work of art. This has been the first time in a couple of days that he saw his children and dedicated time to them. He has been too busy in the office. Today, he left early which was still late compared to the days when his husband was at home and alive.

"The food is ready." Jungkook said loud enough for them to hear.

"I'm not finished yet," Jisoo whined.

"You can finish afterwards. Now, put it away and I'll set up the table," Jungkook announced.

"Me too?" Rose asked.

"Yes, please." Jungkook said sweetly to her.

He was sweeter with Rose. There was no preference or favoritism. It was just a different technique with this child. All Rose needed was love and affection. Jungkook was gaining some trust and the last thing he wanted was to scare her off. Jin noticed the tone in Jungkook's voice changed when he spoke to Rose. It was more caring, and loving—like a parent—than it was with Jisoo. Jin was unsure if it made him comfortable for that matter.

Jungkook wasn't the children's father. Jungkook was here to help them adjust to life post loss. Help him take care of his children. Jin needed to talk to him? Jin wasn't sure if he could even speak up on the matter. Jungkook probably was doing it without knowing. Maybe, Jungkook sees something he doesn't. After all, he's been here more than him in the past three weeks than he has.

Rose had cleared the table of coloring books and crayons. Jungkook was setting it up. Jin had to stand up and wash up before eating. He didn't even excuse himself. Jin wasn't sure if there was an easy way to go about it. He didn't want to replace his husband. Even though, Jungkook was special and unique, he felt unsure of how Jungkook was caring his children. But— why is it that he feels like Jungkook isn't doing a bad thing? Isn't it bad that he's acting as if he was the father of these children?

Jin needed to seek help. He was stressed out; which had to be it. He wasn't one to over think. What got him here was gut feeling and hard work. His gut was almost never wrong. And his gut wasn't saying anything about Jungkook. Nothing but good things. He'd bet on him.

"Mister Kim," Jungkook's whisper behind the door makes him aware of life again.

"Yes," he speaks after clearing his throat.

"Dinner is served and the girls are waiting for you. They want you down there, if possible." Jungkook couldn't even demand him to be down there no matter what. He was safe being the boss. Jungkook wasn't his husband.

"Yea, I'll be down in a minute." He quickly washes his hands once he hears Jungkook leave.

Jungkook's too quiet to be his husband. Why is he so scared? He knew that he wasn't ready to forget his husband and he didn't want the children to forget him either. They barely have memory of him and how could he ask for them to remember him when they're too young, too small to remember?

He walks down there to see Jungkook with Tae on his lap. Jungkook was sitting beside Rose. Jisoo across from Rose how it has been for as long as they could sit at the table. The head of the table belonged to Jin and the seat across him remained unused. It was set up just like he would find every time he had dinner with his children. Why? He still wasn't sure. All he knew is that his husband no longer sat there. Those days were gone.
