20. Worlds Apart
"Dada!" The toddler cried and held his hands up to Kookie.
"I know. You're okay." Jungkook wanted to pick him up but he shouldn't. The toddler depends on him too much. It was partly his fault for always complying to him.
"Appa?" Rose called for Kookie.
"Rose?" He wanted to ask Rose to stop calling him father but he couldn't bring himself to do that. It felt like he would break the small child's heart.
"Why is papa sad? Is it because you don't love him anymore?" The small child plays with the items on the shelf. It's as if she was nervous to ask.
"Your father is a very nice man. I'm not with your papa. I, I just work for him. My job is to take care of his special treasures." Kookie looked down at Rose who continued to toy around.
"What special treasures? I thought you take care of us?"
"I do. You're his most valuable treasures. That's why I watch over you and make sure all of you are okay."
"Your the best treasure keeper then." Rose smiles at the person she has come to value as her father.
"But you love papa? Or do you like my doctor? Because it's not fair to papa." The child finally asked the question that's been on her mind.
None of the children questioned when they kissed but the memory of it happening was still in their mind. Specially, that of Rose. Why wouldn't they hold hands and keep kissing like that of two people who love each other?
"Rose?" He sighed. "I love all of you. You've all been good to me. And your papa isn't my boyfriend and the doctor isn't either." At that moment, Kookie was at eye level with Rose. It was important to get his point across. He wouldn't have to dwell into this topic again.
"So, then it's okay to ask you out again?" Kookie stood up recognizing the voice.
"Doctor Kim," he acknowledges. "How are you?"
He hadn't spoken to the doctor since the cancelled date which was days ago. Only brief text messages were interchanged. Nothing beyond that even though Jungkook wished there was more. Maybe Jungkook just needed the distraction he brought.
"I'd be better if you could answer my question. You know it takes some courage to ask a handsome man like you out again." The doctor smiles with his hands in his jacket. Doctor Kim acknowledges the children that contain curiosity when looking at him.
"The question would be when. I know we're taking a short vacation soon." Part of Jungkook was unsure if he should accept. It hadn't gone as planned the first time. And now he wasn't sure what SeokJin would do.
He had a lot to think about. There was packing to be done and moving. If it was not that then it was the children. Or maybe he was making up excuses so he would gracefully leave the house when the time came. SeokJin wasn't pleased the first time with Yoongi or with Doctor Kim. He wouldn't count Yoongi but the way SeokJin reacted was purely out of jealousy.
"How about we try this weekend again. Which ever day is best for your boss. I'm available all this weekend." One thing Jungkook knew about Doctor Kim was that he genuinely wasn't going to take a no for an answer.
"How about we try Friday. I'll have someone look after the kids for me. Same time as last time?" There was a gut feeling in his stomach. He wasn't sure if it was telling his it was wrong or that he was anxious for their meeting. Which ever it was he would pay it no mind.
"But appa, you can't it's our special day. Papa comes home early." The child was trying to explain but was nervous.
"It's fine Rose. I'll still be there for a bit." Kookie turned to Doctor Kim to see what he said.
"Sure, I'll be there. I'll call you then. It was nice seeing you and the kids too. Later," he smiled and kissed Kookie. The doctor gave him the kiss he didn't give him at the end of their first date.
"Later," Kookie smiled. He kissed the doctor again wanting to feel what he felt like. Compare it to when SeokJin had kissed him. It wasn't the same feeling but it was a good different. This time he had time to feel it without being shocked.
"Jungkook?" Kookie knew that was SeokJin. Today was just a day filled with surprises which he wasn't sure if they were good or not or maybe both.
"Mister Kim," he said stepping next to Doctor Kim.
To Jungkook's surprise he wasn't alone. And maybe it shouldn't have been one because he rarely stepped in the grocery store without Jungkook asking him for something on his way home. It had to be Jimin Park, the gentleman he's been spending so much time with.
"You're his boss?" Doctor Kim already has a dislike for Jin. Not just because he forgot about the children on their date night but, also, the way SeokJin looked at Kookie all doe–eyed. Doctor Kim could see that there was something there, between the two. Just by the way SeokJin looked at him and the way he clung to his own hand.
"I suppose, SeokJin Kim," SeokJin introduced himself. Doctor Kim didn't leave him hanging and shook his hand.
"Doctor NamJoon Kim, pleasure to meet you. You've got great children. I had the chance to meet them a few times. But I think you forgot about your friend here." NamJoon looks at the man standing next to SeokJin. He's dressed very fashionably and comfortable which was something that most people wanted to achieve when dressing.
"This is Jimin Park. He's my friend and business partner," he said. It was clear to see Mister Park didn't like the use of the word friend.
"Nice to meet you. It's so strange that we all meet here. What a small world." There was no sarcasm in his voice. It was just a small observation on his behalf.
"You're right Mister Park but we couldn't be more than worlds apart." Kookie said looking how fashionable the two people before him were; as compared to him and NamJoon who were dressed comfortably. It's not to say they looked out of sorts but it was just simple.
"Papa tell appa he can't go. He wants to leave us Friday." Rose spoke up and hugged her father's leg. She looked at Kookie as if she betrayed them. Why was it that Kookie was getting this look when he just wanted normalcy?
That's when Kookie knew he had messed up since he began working for the Kim family. It was then that both men looked at each other. Park and Jeon. Both understanding what they were dealing with. Both knowing that it would be a difficult task to achieve what they wanted. Both understanding that one day soon they'll both have to talk and say what needed to be said. No beating around the bush, and straight to talk. They both gave a slight nod which was only perceived by the doctor.
"Jungkook, I think you promised me a cup of coffee and you said something about Jisoo?" The doctor knew it was time to leave before the CEO could assess the situation.
"That's right. Let's get Jisoo first then that cup of coffee." Kookie was glad he bumped into NamJoon. "Em, baby, let's go."
SeokJin said a few words to the children and let them go. Kookie wasn't sure what he would've done if he was alone facing them. Jungkook was sure that he'd be easy to read. He was not one to hide his emotions too well. NamJoon never let go of his hand in all that time which might've been what he needed.
He might be the person that he needs. SeokJin might only be the person he thought he wanted. Today, Jungkook saw that they were clearly worlds apart.
