Chapter 8

Second To Sin

Lilly's p.o.v

I snooped around, hiding in the shadows, observing. I was being cautious and knew very well not to enter the strange little building. After a few minutes into the games, I saw Maha and Addie emerge from the building. Maha clutched a dagger drenched in blood.

Had she killed someone? With a sweet little face a voice, I'd never expect her to so much as hurt a fly. At least it was clear now, right?

I crept over into the building and spotted some food. Good. Now, even if the stupid games last for a day or a few, I had the means to survive.

I searched around thoroughly and found Pewds' dead body, hidden behind a pile of logs. Gross. And so sad.

I also found a note. It read,

'Yeotu emturset friygjhet ien tohuies house ohf Death.'

I repeated it out loud. And another time. What was this? It made no sense whatsoever. Maybe it was code? I tried the simple backwords words but that didn't work. I heard rough footsteps from outside and I dived behind the log pile, crouched besides the dead corpse.

Clutching my sword tightly, I heard the door swing open and the footsteps came towards me. I bit my lip and my knuckles went white.

"Please go away," I repeated over and over again in my head.

Of course they didn't. I must have known it would only jinx it. The footsteps drew closer and I watched my cover being pulled away. Harry hill stood before me, cutlass pointed at my throat.

"Stay out of my way," he growled.

Wow. He had guts to say that. I was only seventeen and fit. How old was he and did he ever do exercise at all?

"Please, go away," I demanded, coldly.

His eyes drifted over to the dead body and I seized the chance. I ducked and kicked the back of his legs, sending him flying backwards to the ground. In seconds, I had him laying face up on the ground, my claymore pointed at his nose.

'Kill him,' whispered a voice in my head.

I shook myself. No, I would never do something like that in the real world. Right? I wasn't evil or mad or crazy or insane. No, I wasn't, right?

As I tried to argue over my thoughts, Harry took the chance. He managed to get me on the floor, face down, arms twisted behind me. My claymore lay on my right, useless.

"I'm sorry girl," Harry apologized, "But I have no room for flaws in my plan."

I spotted the note and finally worked it out.

"You must fight in this house of Death," I whispered.

I felt strength in my heart and I knew what to do. I kicked at Harry and pulled away from his weakened grip. Then I reached for my sword and smiled as my hand closed around the cold, sleek, metal handle.

I pushed myself up and used it to tackle Harry's cutlass to the floor. It fell on the stone with a loud, 'clunk'.

'Die,' spat a voice in my head.

This time I didn't- couldn't- stop myself. The clean blade of my scottish sword sliced the comedian's windpipe clean apart. I fell to the floor as I realised what I had done.

I had commited the biggest sin known to mankind. I killed another being....
