Chapter 4

"Batman is clearly the greatest superhero of all time."

"Okay and what about robin, no one gives him credit."

Because no one gives a fuck about robin."

"Please, robin is the backbone of superheroes."

"Oh bull shit."

I stifle a laugh as the three boys walk in arguing about superheroes. Before I realize it Michael has joined the conversation and I'm left on the couch. Not for long though, they all join me, Luke hopping over the back of the couch and sitting on my right but quickly relocating to the other couch and Ashton taking his place. I give him a small smile and survey the room. Once again Calum is sitting a few feet away deep in thought. His eyebrows are furrowed and a frown is displayed on his face. Weird.

Luke and Michael start a game of FIFA and Ashton is giving me hints about our date tomorrow night, and Calum well... Calum's just sort of sitting there. He'a fiddling with his fingers and won't pick up his head.

"Is this how every band meeting goes?" I ask.

"Not always. All of our music comes from experience so I guess we're waiting for something to happen that we can write about." Luke explains.

"I have a song idea." Ashton says abruptly and goes over to the other boys to consult. I can't make out what they're saying but they all look to agree, well almost all of them.

Luke grabs the acoustic guitar and Ashton sits on a box like object which I'm assuming he uses for a drum.

The beat starts slowly and Ashton begins to sing. His voice is beautiful.

I feel my cheeks reddening. Tears begin to brim in my eyes. Nobody has ever done anything like this for me, ever.
My body reacts faster than my mouth does to say "thank you" and my arms wrap around his neck.

Out of the corner of my eye I see Calum get up angrily and walk outside letting the door slam behind him and Michael calls after him. Him and Luke follow Calum outside leaving me and Ashton alone.

Calum's POV

She throws her arms around him and I completely lose it. Michael and Luke call after me but I don't stop not until they catch up to me at least.

"What's wrong Cal? You stormed out of there pretty quick."

"What's wrong? Are you fucking kidding me?! what's wrong is that Ashton not only sung to her but he sung her the song that I wrote for her. The lyrics don't even make sense because he's all confident around her. What's wrong is that he's completely oblivious to the fact that I have feelings for her." my heart's beating a mile a minute as I kick at the gravel beneath my feet.

"Listen Calum he likes her too-"

"Does he? He doesn't know anything about her he's known her for two days!"

"So have you.." Michael points out.

I'm so flustered. I know it hasn't been long but she's different. Her smile is brighter than others, her laugh is happier than others, her brain is smarter than others. She's beautiful and I want to be the one to tell her that everyday. I'm too shy for her. Ashton's the 'bad boy' the one who can get anyone at anytime.

"I see the way she looks at him. I know that look, it's the same one I give her."

I sit on the ground and burry my face in my hands. I, Calum Hood, for the first time in my life cry for a girl that will never have that want and need for me.

We return inside about twenty minutes later and it's around 8:00 and she's gone.

"She had to get home, shower and what not." explains Ashton getting up from his seat.

I push past him and go into the bathroom. my face is red and puffy I look like a mess. This is why she'll never want me, I'm not like Ashton.
As I turn to open the door I hear the boys talking.

"What's wrong with Cal?"

"You're so stupid" Luke laughs.

"You know that was Calum's song." Michael pointed out.

"Well I wanted her to like me, if I didn't do that she wouldn't want me. It's not like he wrote it for her."

I did.

"Whatever mate."

About five minutes later Michael knocks on the door and tells me Ashton went home.

I open the door slowly a few inches at a time just in case.

"C'mon Calum I'll drive ya home you could use the rest." Luke says grabbing his keys and twirling them around his index finger.

"Alright, night Michael." I say and Luke waves.

"Hey Calum, you'll win her over." Michael says getting up to close the door.

"Ya think so?"

He gives me a knowingly look and I sigh hoping he's right.

A.N// hi okay so I wanted this update to be longer than usual so yeah haha but I'm starting to get more reads which is always exciting. I don't know when my next update will be I'm gonna try for tomorrow so fingers crossed.
