It was quiet. Too quiet. The silence was almost deadly. With what has happened, that didn't seem too farfetched. The inside of the Sanders' home seemed different. I know it really wasn't but as of now my judgment had been clouded. Nothing was normal. Nothing made sense. Everything sucked.

Amy had her arm around me to comfort me. I didn't need comfort though. I needed answers. Luckily, I was promised some answers. It was the moment of truth. After we kind of barged in demanding answers, Mrs. Sanders called up Chance and Trixie. They were probably still at Paige's house. They hurried over once they heard what the circumstances were. Amy and I were on the couch sitting across from four chairs. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders occupied the first two. Next to Mrs. Sanders was Chance and next to him was Trixie on her iPhone.

Mrs. Sanders brought us out some tea. It just sat in front of us untouched. Neither of us was thirsty. We just needed to know. It seemed like nobody knew how to start the conversation. I sure wasn't. I had no idea what to say. I also didn't want to speak lied to.

"You should drink your tea, it's getting cold," Mrs. Sanders finally spoke. She said the wrong thing though.

"We aren't thirsty," Amy retorted.

"We? I didn't hear Cole say he wasn't thirsty. You can't just speak for him-"

"I can and I did," Amy cut her off. "Cole isn't thirsty. He didn't ask for a drink and neither did I."

"Well, I was just being polite and offering my guests a drink. You should be thankful that I let you have some of my special tea. Please drink it," Mrs. Sanders stated firmly.

"Special tea? Why is it 'special'? What did you do, put poison in it? WE AREN'T THIRSTY! You know what we are here for you so you might as well get to it!"

"I will not tolerate yelling-"

"Mom," Chance interrupted. "It's time to tell them everything. They deserve to know."

"He's right," Mr. Sanders agreed. I stared at him. It was hard to believe that he couldn't do the same. I could never imagine being blind. It would just kill me. He was still able to function properly though. He was able to understand the conversation and he seemed pretty content with his life. Well, except for this small detail.

"Fine," Mrs. Sanders finally settled. "I apologize for the manner in which I have been acting. This is just an extremely hard subject and with everything going on, it's just not something I like to remember. Surely you understand that. It is time you knew everything though."

"Can I say something first?" Chance chimed in. His mother nodded. "I'm sorry for lying to you guys about everything. I hope you can understand. Also, I am sorry for what you are about to hear. You'll probably be really hurt after."

"Whatevs. He can take it. He's not a little baby," Trixie finally spoke from behind her phone.

"Can we get on with this?" Amy growled. Mrs. Sanders nodded.

"Alright. It all started when Bartholomew was fourteen. His first year of high school. He had just come out to us. It was adorable how nervous he was. He did it anyway. Nothing ever stopped him. It wasn't a big concern of his what people thought. He wanted to start off high school knowing exactly who he was. Most students had no idea who they would become. He knew though."

"For the most part," Trixie cut in. "Bartholomew and I had been friends for as long as you and Amy have been friends. That's how strong our bond was. There was one thing that he cared about a lot. His name. He hated it. I mean, what kind of name is Bartholomew?"

"My mother said it was a cute name," Mrs. Sanders defended.

"No sweetie. He thought that kids would laugh at a name like that in high school. Elementary and middle school everyone was totes okay with it. Once we got into high school though, people sucked. He tried showing them that he didn't give a shit it but he gave a lot of shits. We fell into a bad crowd of people after that. They accepted him because he was such a cool guy. They made him change his name though. Then he became Alec. Alec Sanders. Alexanders. How stupid is that? But that's where things went. Pretty soon Alec started caring about things like family and school way less. I wasn't as bad as Alec though. Alec did some bad things. One of them affected someone in this very room." She looked over at Mr. Sanders. I looked over at Amy.
