“How long do we have to stay at his house?” Amy asked as we were driving over to Devon’s house Saturday morning.
“Just a few hours,” I answered with a hopeful tone. I was a little nervous about this to be honest. It’s not that I had anything against Dev, it’s just a little weird. He was gone for a year. He missed a lot and once he comes back things are even weirder. He invited Amy and I to hang out. We haven’t really hung out with him since we were kids. In high school it was just ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ and the normal teenage stuff. The other thing that strikes me as strange is the text message. “What about the weird text?”
“It was a little scary.”
“Yeah, why did whoever sent it want us to go to Dev’s so badly. Nothing life changing will probably happen.”
“It’s a big mystery. I mean, Dev couldn’t have sent that. He just turned away as it was received,” Amy replied.
“True. I don’t recall anyone else being there.”
“What about that Trixie girl?” Amy accused.
“What about her?”
“She was within listening distance. She could have sent the threatening text?”
“It wasn’t threatening and there was no way she could have sent that. It had to be from like a computer. It has no actual sender. The number has letters and shit in it. Plus, I’m pretty sure this text is in succession to the other messages I got. Ya know when Alec was still alive. That would have to mean that Trixie was here the whole time,” I explained.
“I guess you’re right. There is just something about her that I don’t like. She’s too mainstream. Seriously, if I have to hear her say ‘like’ one more time, I will ‘like’ hit her in the ‘like’ face. I promise,” Amy mimicked.
“Yeah, she is very mainstream. You should be lucky you didn’t hear her ringtone.”
“We Can’t Stop. You told me,” Amy sighed. “By now she probably has changed it to that new tragedy, Wrecking Ball.”
“Oh, I heard about that. The video is risqué or something. She’s supposed to be naked on a ball I think.”
“Yep. That girl needs Jesus,” Amy laughed. I joined in. Ah, starting the day off ridiculing Miley Cyrus. Today is gonna be a good day. Definitely much better than yesterday. Amy’s day was probably better though. She got asked out. Wait, her night was probably really good too. I actually haven’t asked her.
“So… how was last night?” I asked totally being nonchalant. Sarcasm. That was sarcasm.
“Oh, it was whatever,” she answered being way more nonchalant than I was.
“Uh… okay. That’s nice.”
“Kidding,” she broke. “I was waiting for you to ask. It was amazing. We had dinner at a nice restaurant in Boston. I didn’t have to drive for once. No offense. Anyways, we had a lot in common actually. He loves indie movies and music and he told me I was beautiful like a million times. I know it’s cheesy but still… it was nice for a change. It’s stupid, right?”
“No, it’s not stupid at all. It’s amazing. I’m so happy for you.”
“Thanks.”
“So are you guys like boyfriend and girlfriend now?”
“Cole, we’ve been on one date. It doesn’t work that quickly. I know those sluts on the telly have sex after knowing the guy for fourteen minutes but this is real life. Things are different. Enough about me, how was your night? Dinner with the Sanders and uh..”
