“I’ve got that summertime, summertime sadness,” Lana Del Rey crooned in my ears. It was the next day, Friday to be exact. Fourth period was mere seconds from ending. I was alone. Skyler wasn’t at school today. Apparently her aunt was drinking this morning and she needed to keep watch of her because she does ‘crazy’ things when she is drunk. I was actually a little lonely. I was never alone in this class. Things are different now though. Natalia is in the crazy house. Skyler was only temporarily gone. Alec was dead. Even Shelly wasn’t here. She hasn’t been here any of the days I’ve been here. I thought on my first day that she would tackle me.

Speaking of tackling, Chance continued his obsession with me. After every class he waited then walked with me. I really hope that he doesn’t like me and that this is just some really off the wall way of coping with his brother’s death. I still haven’t really been able to ask him what was with all of this positivity. He was always an odd one though.

The bell rang and I sadly had to take out my headphones and pause my beautiful music. I mean, I wanted to continue listening but I knew that Chance would be waiting for me and it would be rude to not listen to a word he was saying. Then again...

“Cole!” he exclaimed running up and squeezing me.

“Hey,” I replied less excited than he was. We started walking over to the lunch court.

“Where are we gonna sit today? Yesterday was a little random. We actually didn’t end up eating lunch,” Chance blabbered.

“I don’t really know-“ I started saying before I was so rudely interrupted by Chance’s phone ringing. To make things worse he was another mainstream freak. As he pulled his phone out of his pocket, The Way by Ariana Grande sung from it. Please answer that. I can’t hear another second of it.

“Oh, that’s Trixie. She is visiting our school today. She is probably here. I’m gonna answer this and go find her. Meet you at the table,” Chance said walking away. I let out a sigh of relief.

“Hey Cole,” I heard another voice said. That sigh was let out a little too quickly. Steve walked up to me with a smile and was going in for a hug. I pushed him off.

“Hi,” I responded.

“How are you?” he asked with a sincere smile. What the hell was he up to? Steve wasn’t a nice person. There had to be something else. I decided to play along. I didn’t know how long I could though.

“I’m doing really well for someone who just found out that his boyfriend was murdered by his friend,” I answered with a smile. Not too harsh, right?

“Oh, right. Sorry about that.”

“No need to be sorry. How are you?” I asked really not caring.

“I’m fine, thank you,” he answered sincerely again. I didn’t say anything after that. Neither did he. “Listen, if you need anything, I told you, I’m here for y-“

“Okay, can we cut the crap?” I interrupted him finally breaking.

“Excuse me?”

“I said cut the crap. I know that you don’t really care how I feel and I know you aren’t really here for me. What are you up to?”

“I’m not up to anything,” he replied a little scared.

“Steve, I know you. I’ve known you for years. You have never done anything nice for anybody. Why start now? You’re hiding something or you know something. I just don’t know what.”

“I’m not hiding anything. I swear.”

“You’re a liar. You are seriously screwed up Steve,” I shouted turning away from him. He grabbed my arm and yanked me back.
