Cole and Jay left the two girls behind and when they went out of sigh, Cole looked at Jay
"So, what was this in the woods?"Cole asked and Jay kinda blushed
"I think you saw it for yourself"Jay said
"Yeah, I did..."Cole said and looked down"So, I lost the bet, huh?"Cole thought and Jay looked at him
"What bet?"Jay asked and Cole snapped and looked at him
"Well, me and Seliel had a bet on you two. She said that you will be couple and I said you won't"Cole explained"So, she won. I will have to say goodbye to my machete"Cole said looking at his weapon
"Well, you didn't have to make a bet on this"Jay said chuckling
"I know, but congratulations, anyways"Cole said
"Thanks, but we are not a couple, still"Jay said and Cole nudged him
"You will be. She likes you a lot"Cole said
"How do you know?"Jay asked turning to him
"I may or may not heard her and Seliel talking one night"Cole said and the two laughed. In this time, they arrived in front of the gathering room. They entered and everyone turned to them. Jay recognized Zane, Morro and Lloyd and then saw again the other keepers from Turner's banishment
"Look who finally decided to show up!"Morro yelled angrily
"Calm down Morro. C'mon. We have to start"Lloyd said gesturing to one chair in front of the keepers. Jay walked to it and sat, while Cole sat on one opposite of him and next to Zane. Jay studied the chairs. There was only one free, which he assumed was Kai's. He got kinda nervous
"So, I called a gathering, because this shank here broke our number one rule"Lloyd said gesturing to Jay"And since Kai's not here, I will lead. Zane, what do you think?"
"Well, I think he did brake the rules..."Zane started"But he helped Cole with Kai, which was both stupid and brave"he finished
"Okay, Bolobo?"Lloyd asked turning to the keeper of the track-hoes
"He broke the rule and he has to be punished"Bolobo said with a stern face
"Then, Morro?"Lloyd said turning to the keeper of the builders
"He has to be punished"Morro said and Lloyd continued asking the keepers. Cole was the last
"Cole, what do you think? You were there with him"Lloyd said. Cole stand and looked at everyone
"Look, I don't know if he is stupid or brave, but without him, I and Kai would be dead now. He helped Kai when I ran away like a coward..."Cole said and looked at Jay
"So, what do you suggest?"Lloyd asked
"I said we make him a runner"Cole said and everyone gasped
"Are you nuts!? He broke our number one rule and you say we make him a runner!?"Morro yelled standing too
"Guys, calm down"Lloyd said"Morro's right. We have to punish him. One night in the pit without foot and water"Lloyd commanded
"What!? That's not gonna stop him from going in the Maze!"Morro yelled
"Yes, I know..."Lloyd said"From tomorrow, the Greenie is a runner"Lloyd said and half of the guys gasped, while the other half congested Jay
"You are insane!"Morro said and ran out the room, leaving everyone inside. Jay was smiling. He did became a runner. He stand and walked to Cole
"Thanks Cole"Jay said
"No problem buddy"Cole said"Now, c'mon. Your girlfriend may be sick worried for you"Cole said and laughed, while Jay smiled. The two left and saw Nya and Seliel in front of the little building. Nya was pacing around, while Seliel was sitting in the ground with crossed legs and trying to calm Nya down
"Nya you are so worried that you didn't saw them come out"Seliel said, noticing the boys and gesturing to them. Nya turned her head to see them in front of the door and coming to them. She ran to Jay and hugged him
"What happened? You are not banished, right?"Nya asked. Jay wrapped his hands around her and shook his head
"No, don't worry. A night in the pit without food"Jay said and Nya sighed in relief
"Thank god"she said and realized him from the hug, then turned to Seliel and Cole
"Well, we will leave you two alone now"Cole said"I and Seliel has something to talk about"Cole said holding his machete tight. Seliel chuckled and crossed her arms in front of her chest
"Yup. Let's go. See ya later!"Seliel yelled and dragged Cole away. Jay and Nya laughed at them, then Jay looked down at her
"We too have something to talk about"Jay said and Nya nodded. The two headed to the deadheads and back to their place. They sat opposite of each other again. Nya was playing with the grass, while Jay was staring at her
"So, ummm...do you....you know....like me?"Nya asked suddenly, not looking at him. Jay smiled
"Yes I do. Why should I kiss you otherwise"Jay said and Nya giggled a little. Jay stand and moved next to her, then wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer
"Do you think we should go for lunch?"Nya asked after a while of comforting silence
"I don't want to go anywhere"Jay said kissed her head
"But you will be in the pit without food. I don't want you to starve"Nya said concerned
"I really don't care. I just wanna spend some time with you"Jay said
"You can spend it on lunch too"Nya said standing"We can come back after it. We are not running today anyways"Nya said and Jay groaned
"Fine, let's go"he said standing. He wrapped his hand around her shoulders again and they started walking out of the Deadheads and towards lunch
At the night, Cole walked Jay to the pit. He opened the door and Jay jumped inside, then he closed it again and looked down at him
"Sorry mate. I will come to take you at the morning"Cole said and walked away. Jay sat there for a while, thinking. How were they supposed to get away from here? Suddenly, he heard someone coming to the pit. He looked up and sat no other than Nya
"Hey Jay"Nya said smiling at him
"Nya? What are you doing here?"Jay asked standing up
"I came to keep you company, if you don't mind"Nya said
"I would love your company, but please go to sleep"Jay said
"I was gonna sleep here"Nya said
"No, no way"Jay said shaking his head"That's my punishment, not yours. Please go to the Homestead and sleep. We will see in the morning"Jay said
"But-"
"Nya, please"Jay said kissing her forehead
"Okay. See ya tomorrow"Nya said, giving him a tired smile, then standing and walking back to the Homestead. This night she slept in his hammock
