Lloyd and Jay started walking to the Homestead-the place where everyone are sleeping. Lloyd went to one room and took some things from it, then went back with his hammock. He went to tie it up around some others. Jay was just staring at the big walls around them. They were at least 10 meters high and were in perfect square. On every wall was a door. What was behind them?
"So Greenie, what's your name?"Lloyd asked while doing his work, but Jay neither didn't heard him, or ignored him
"What are the walls for?"Jay asked interested
"The walls? You better don't go behind them"Lloyd asked and Jay turned to him
"Why?"Jay asked turning to him
"Did Kai told you the rules?"Lloyd asked when he was finished
"No"Jay shook his head
"Okay then then I will have to tell you. So, first, don't hurt another Glader-we have to trust each other or nothing's gonna work"Lloyd explained
"Okay. Something more?"Jay asked
"Yes. Second, do your part. You will also be searching a job tomorrow with Kai, I guess"Lloyd said
"Got that"Jay said nodding
"And the third and most important rule..."Lloyd said going closer to him"Never, I mean never go beyond the walls"Lloyd said
"Why? What's in there?"Jay asked confused, looking back at the door
"You better don't learn"Lloyd said and then pulled away from him"C'mon. It will be time to eat soon"Lloyd said and the two started walking towards the kitchen. On their way there, Jay saw some people coming out from the doors. A guy and two girls
"Hey, I thought it's forbidden to go beyond the walls"Jay said to Lloyd confused
"They are Runners. That's their job"Lloyd said
"To go in the doors?"Jay asked even more confused. Why are the runners allowed to go behind the doors when it's the first rule here?
"Yes"Lloyd answered
"And why? Isn't the most important rule don't go beyond the walls?"Jay asked annoying Lloyd
"You have pretty much questions, don't you?"Lloyd asked stopping"Listen. Everyday, they go into the Maze to find a way out of here"Lloyd said
"The Maze?"Jay asked confused and Lloyd nodded. In this time, the so called Runners, approached them
"Yo Lloyd. Newt Greenie?"the guy asked running past them with the two girls right behind him
"Yeah Cole. See ya at dinner"Lloyd said
"See ya"Cole said and turned back to his way
"Let's go to dinner. They will be joining us after a while"Lloyd said and the two continued to the kitchen. When they arrived, they took their food from a guy with blond hair in army cut and icy blue eyes. It was a chicken soup. Somehow, Jay knew he liked it. He knew what it was. He remember what is everything. He can remember that he ate chicken soup somewhere, but not where and with who. It was bothering him. He had to talk for it with someone
The night came and everyone were around the bone fire. The people trow torches in it to lit the fire up and yelled. Jay, on other hand, was sitting behind a log all by himself. He was thinking. Trying to remember something, but he couldn't. Suddenly, someone plopped next to. He turned to see one of the girls who was with the runner-Cole as far as he can remember. She had black hair in a ponytail and a little mole on her left cheek(I am gonna make her like in the movie and Season 8. Sorry guys, but I think I like her more like that). And hat gorgeous blue eyes
"So, you are the Greenie everyone are talking about, huh?"the girl asked
"Ummm....yeah? I guess so"Jay said
"Hmm..everyone said that at first they thought you will be a good runner, but they told me that you fell after this"the girl said
"Yeah. I wasn't paying attention where I was running"Jay answered
"I am Nya, by the way"the girl said
"Jay"
"Nice to meet you, Jay"Nya said and took a sip from her jar. Inside was a yellow liquid, who didn't looked very good. After Nya took a gulp from it, she offered to Jay
"You wanna drink?"Nya asked
"Yeah, I am thirsty"Jay said and took it. He took a little gulp, but then spill it out
"What the heck is that!?"Jay yelled disgusted giving it back to her
"I don't know"she said laughing and looking at it"Morro's recipe"she said, then took another gulp from it
"Hey, can you remember something?"Jay asked
"What exactly?"Nya asked looking at him confused
"Your memories. Before you came here"Jay asked
"Nah"Nya replied casually"Nobody here remembers. The old people we were are not here anymore"Nya said
"How much time are you here?"Jay asked
"Two years"
"Two years?"Jay asked surprised
"Yeah"Nya said looking down at her jar. Jay looked up to the walls
"Can I be a runner?"Jay suddenly asked. Nya looked up at him, confused
"A runner?"she asked rising an eyebrow
"Yeah"Jay said
"Dude, nobody wants to be a runner"Nya said
"And why not?"Jay asked"You are one"
"Because I am not that scared. Most of the guys here don't want to go inside"Nya said
"Why? What's so scary inside this Maze?"Jay asked annoyed
"Listen"Nya said and felt silent. There were laid noises of moving stones and then something like yells
"What is going on?"Jay whispered confused
"That's the Maze. It's changing"Nya said"And the other sounds were the Serpentine"
"What's a Serpentine?"Jay asked
"Big snakes, let's say. Everybody who saw them are not able to tell"Nya said
"Why? What happened with them?"Jay asked
"They are dead"Nya said shocking him"If you got bitten by a serpentine, you start becoming a one. You become insane and want to kill the others. There is a cure for it. We have it and it can help you, but only if you make in time"Nya said
"Interesting. What happened if-"
"Okay, enough questions for one night"Nya said standing"C'mon. This is your night. Let's walk around"Nya said giving him her hand. He took it and stand, then the two started walking around the 'party'
"The keeper of cookers-Zane, and his helper Pixal. Hey guys!"Nya said waving at the blond cook from earlier and a girl with silver hair
"Hey Nya"the two answered, then Nya and Jay continued
"Skylor and Harumi-the Med Jacks or the Doctors of the Glade"Nya said, while a red and white haired girls passed them
"Hi Nya"the red head said waving
"Cole and Seliel-Runners like me. Cole is our keeper"Nya said pointing at the two, sitting together and talking
"I guess you already know Kai and Lloyd-the leader and the second in command"Nya explained
"Yeah I know them"Jay said, then yawned"I think I will head for bed"he said
"Okay then. See ya tomorrow"Nya said
"Yeah, see ya"Jay said and walked away and to his hammock. He remembered where Lloyd had put it so he was fast. He removed his shoes and laid down on it. He was staring at the ceiling. Thinking. Trying to remember. Something. Anything, but nothing came. At the end, he gave up and went to sleep
