Caroline
As the season goes on the boys continue to defy the odds. My job as a writer for the team is getting hard because there isn't anything bad to write about. Even the games they shouldn't, they still get at least a point out of. Their offense is flying and their defense is clicking and the goalies are basically standing on their heads at times making highlight reel saves every night. It was fun to watch and fun for me to write about.
After Valentine's Day my dad plans a visit to come down. He was going to help out at a morning skate and have dinner with Stan and Scotty since they were still close friends. My dad is close to taking the coaching job with the Av's, probably after this season, but he knows so many people in so many different organizations it's kind of crazy.
And my dad always finds himself wherever the hockey is best, and right now it's Chicago.
"You knew this was going to happen, didn't you" he asks me as he and Corey nurse a beer on the couch on a extremely rare off day in Chicago.
"I had a feeling. I mean this team is deep and young and experienced" I admit.
"Is that why you came to Chicago" Corey asks me.
"I know a good thing when I see it" I admit.
"Is that why you're with me" he jokes making my dad starts cracking up. I just roll my eyes as he sits there very proud of himself for the joke he made.
"Do you think they are going to keep this up" my dad wonders.
"Hell yeah. No one has a answer for these guys yet, they find every way possible to win or at least get a point. It won't last for the 48 games but who is going to stop them at this point" I ask.
"True" my dad nods. "But if I was still playing..." he trials off and I let out a loud groan. "What? I would be able to stop these guys" he pouts.
"This is a different age of hockey Dad. These guys aren't trying to fight you, they're going to use speed and skills and talent to beat you. You can't just over power them, you have to out think them and out play them for a while sixty minutes" I explain.
"Are you saying I'm too stupid to play hockey now" he asks and I sigh.
"Father, I need you to listen to me. What the league was when you played hockey and what the league is when Corey is playing hockey are two totally different styles. You don't see guys firing pucks from sixty feet out like they used to. They're not allowed to stand in the crease and you're not allowed to shove them out. They get over forty shots on goal more often than not now a days. It's a whole different world out there. You know I think your the best goalie to ever live, no one can take that from you.
But if you were to go out there and try to play right now you're going to look silly" I insist.
"I guess you're right" he mumbles.
"Damn right I am" I smirk.
We finish up our drinks before changing for the dinner. We were gonna meet up at a nice restaurant and have some wine and catch up since we spent so much time apart.
I change into a nice long sleeved light pink dress, really simple. I add some nude heels because if I don't the dress drags across the floor and it'll get all dirty. I curl my long blonde hair and put in my contacts so I don't mess with my glasses the whole dinner. I love my glasses but they're a pain in my ass sometimes.
After I finish my hair I put on a little makeup, I wasn't trying to impress anyone but these people are my bosses and good friends of my father so I wasn't going to go in my usual jeans and a baseball cap. Unfortunately for me.
I start to put my in some earrings in until I feel a pair of hands on me. I look in the mirror and see Corey grab my waist and pull me back so I was leaning against him. I smile at him through the mirror as he stares at me hard core.
"Hi there" I giggle as I finish putting in my earrings.
"Hello beautiful" he replies and I feel my cheeks burn up.
"Are you ready for dinner, do you need anything" I ask as I wrap myself in his arms. He holds me close as he can before softly kissing my neck.
"I'm about to have dinner with my boss, the winningest coach in nhl history and the best by far, the best goalie in the world, and the most amazing person I have ever met... so I'm a little nervous" he admits.
"I can hear your heart beating" I admit.
"That's because of you. It happens every time you touch me" he claims.
"Why is that" I wonder.
"I don't know, it only happens with you. Sometimes it's just when I look into your eyes, my body just starts reacting. My heart starts racing and my palms get all sweaty. My mind goes blank and sometimes I don't know what to say. Just I love you a lot I guess" he claims. I turn around in his arms and stare back into his eyes. I place a passionate kiss on his lips as he kisses me back.
"Some of the best things in the world can't be seen or touched, but felt with the heart" I explain.
"I feel you in my heart. It's the best feeling in the world" he insists.
I press another quick kiss on his lips before leaving his embrace. I gather up my things and we join my dad in the living room so we could head over to the restaurant.
We head over and find everyone sitting around the table. So many of the nhl greats were in this room just hanging out and it was kind of really cool. We listen to their stories and some of my dads stories of Coach Q. We share a lot of laughs and it's almost like we weren't the hottest team in the nhl right now. And at the same time this is the reason we are, because we're so close and so determined to be great, I can only imagine what this will lead to.
