Caroline
After the hawks come back down from flying high the first 24 games of the season they still continue to show why they are the best team on the ice at any given moment.
And with the guys feeling so good on the ice, they were feeling pretty good off of it too.
"You're cheating" I whine as Corey retrieves his red ball from the hole.
"Baby, were on the same team" he reminds me.
"That doesn't make it okay for you to cheat" I remind him.
"Just shush before Seab's hears you" he insists.
"Fine" I huff and he smiles knowing he has won. He kisses my cheek before we follow the other couples to a different hole.
We spend so much time not playing put put but retrieving the balls from whatever obstacle one of the guys got the balls stuck in this time. I say they should all stick to hockey because golf doesn't look like a good fall back for them.
I watch as Patrick sits on Corey's shoulders as he tries to retrieve the putter he tossed into a tree when he got mad. I would be lying if I said that was the first time they had to be creative to dig themselves out a hole they dug themselves into. I don't even know if we are going to make it to the last hole before we get kicked out of here.
"I thought Patrick said he played golf" Amanda says coming over to me.
"He does. But he doesn't do it well" I admit and she laughs.
"Does this always happen" she wonders.
"Yeah. You should have seen them going bowling... Jonny missed three games because Sharpy challenges him to use the heaviest ball and he sprained his finger" I shake me head.
"Captain Grumpy Pants sprained his finger bowling" she gasps.
"All three of them" I smirk.
"I never knew professional athletes were so competitive and so..." she trails off.
"Stupid" I laugh.
"Yeah. Stupid" she agrees.
"Well let me tell you, it only gets worse from here."
Once we get the putter out of the tree we had to figure out how to get Patrick off of Corey's shoulders. Once everyone and everything was on the ground safe we finish up.
I ended up wining and that was important because even though Corey cheated he was still terrible. I would never tell him that, but that doesn't make it any less true.
"Why are should so good at put put" Patrick asks and I laugh.
"The skillset required to be good at this is patience and focus. Two things I can pride myself on" I explain. "And my dad used to make me hit balls to practice his reflexes and reactions in our basement so I know where to hit the halls and how hard" I shrug.
"Why didn't you guys use a stick and training ball" Corey asks.
"The golf ball was smaller which made him see pucks easier and we like to change it ho a little. Plus the sticks were always taller than me" I explain.
"Awww" Corey coos and I send him a glare. He quickly stops and I just shake my head.
We say goodbye to everyone before returning home. Once we get there we chill out on the couch and find a game to watch. We didn't have too many left but there were still people out there playing for something. Right now we were resting guys and trying to see who to carry into the playoffs and who will be out black horse like Big Buff back in 2010.
We watch NHL Network and even when they weren't playing, all anyone could talk about was the Blackhawks. But can you blame them? They were playing the best team hockey anyone has seen since the Detroit dynasty days.
Eventually they start talking about goaltending and they put Corey up there. They compare him to no one other than my dad and I just had to laugh. I think they are more alike than anyone thinks and it's hilarious. Both their personality and passion are off the charts and it makes for some good hockey.
"Can I ask you a question" he wonders.
"Absolutely" I assure him.
"If and when we gat married, would you take my last name" he asks.
"Of course I would, why would you even ask" I wonder.
"Well seeing your dads name next to mine made me realize how much more weight yours has than mine.
I mean your dad is the great Patrick Roy, legendary goal tender and one of the best ever. And your mom is the beautiful Susan Roy, the only female strong enough to support a beautiful young woman and a border line insane goal tender while writing a book and fighting cancer. There's a lot of weight to your last name. It's who you are" he insists.
"That is true. A lot of who I am is who my parents are. But that's not who I'm going to be.
I hope one day I will be Caroline Crawford. Wife of nine time Stanley cup champion Corey Crawford. Mother of the sweetest and most amazing kids ever" I insist.
"Are you sure? Because I won't be mad if you don't take my name" he insists.
"I'm sure. There's nothing that would make me happier than sharing the same last name as you" I say.
"I don't deserve you" he claims.
"You deserve nothing but the best."
"And I have that right here" he claims moving a piece of hair out of my face. I place a soft kiss on his lips before breaking away. He quickly pulls me back and I smile as his hands get tangled in my hair.
I rest my head on his as my eyes remain shut. I feel my lip throbbing but it felt really good. I will never get tired of that feeling. I feel his hand come up and cup my face causing me to smile. I finally open my eyes and see his staring at me.
"What are you looking for" I wonder.
"I'm not sure. There's a lot of things I'm looking for, but I think I just found it."
