After I bought my groceries, I quickly headed to the diner. Before that though, I was able to at least put on some cover up and fake-eyelashes with mascara. Don't judge me, I always have backup makeup in my car in case of an emergency. Going out with an old friend for lunch is a major makeup emergency. It's not like Avi hasn't seen me without makeup before, but I'm still going to be out in public so I want to look decent.
I'm waiting in the parking lot finishing up on my mascara when I see Avi walk in. I beat him here I guess. So I guess it was a good idea to sit in the car and do my makeup in case he was already there. I didn't want to go in without it and have him already be there. Then again I wouldn't want to have him wait either.
Oh well.
I take off my glasses, get out of my car and run after him. "Avi!" He turns around, meeting my eyes and his face lights up. He's probably going to notice that I put makeup on, I don't really care. I spent 6 years with this man, he knows how I am when it comes to looking good for the public. He scrunches his eyebrows together and peers down at me.
"Kirstie, I told you not to worry about putting on makeup."
I told you he'd notice.
"Avi you know how I am." I said, lightly punching him in the shoulder. He chuckled and we walked to the door and being the gentleman that Avi has always been and still is, he held the door for me. The lady at the counter seated us in a booth near the front of the diner, near the window. Avi thanked the lady and we sat down.
"So, do you know what you want?" I said, initiating a conversation. Avi eyed me and gave me a "duh!" look. I threw my hands up in defense and he chuckled at me.
"Waffles, a side of bacon and sausage." Avi said confidently.
"Bacon AND sausage?" Yep, Avi has not changed at all.
"Yep, it's worth the extra 2.50." I laughed and eyed my menu once again, trying to decide whether or not to get eggs or an oatmeal. After all, that is what I left the house for. "What about you?" I looked up at him and he was eyeing me curiously.
That's something that has changed about Avriel. Whenever he looked at me it was always with a caring tint to those green orbs of his. Now, not seeing each other for nearly a year, his eyes are curious. It's almost like he's meeting me for the first time again.
"Either eggs or oatmeal."
"Why not both?"
"Cause I'm not YOU Avi." I said. He chuckled. I was watching my weight despite my breakup. The waitress soon came over and asked us what we wanted for a drink. I ordered a coffee and Avi ordered the same. Right away I could tell the waitress was somewhat attracted to Avi. She gravitated towards him and couldn't keep her eyes off of him. I'm telling you, it's the eyes. I feel a heat rise to my cheeks and a sudden burst of anger. I'd know this feeling anywhere, it's jealousy. But why? I don't have any feelings towards Avi. I used to, but I haven't seen him in months, how could I be jealous? Ugh.
My next move is stupid.
"You can leave now." I sass at the waitress. She eyes me a "bitch" look and then saunters away, eyeing Avi again and winking at him. I'm sure that she was going to tell the cooks to spit in my food but for some reason, I really don't care. I just wanted her away from Avi.
"Uh, you good Kirst?" Shit. Now what do I say?
"Uh yeah, I just realized I used to know her from highschool. Real slut, stole my boyfriend away from me like 5 times haha." I said, lying right through my teeth. I somewhat regret it but not much. She didn't do anything wrong. Avi and I are just friends catching up. It's normal for girls to notice attractive guys like the one sitting across from me. Still, it's awkward and I hope to God he doesn't piece together that she would've had to go to Arlington High in TEXAS and then move to California too just like me. Luckily Avi is a boy so I really don't think he'll put two and two together.
"Hm, reasonable." He says, shrugging and checking his phone. The same waitress returns within a few minutes with our coffees. She asks us if we're ready to order and we nod. Of course the waitress wants to hear Avi's order first but he goes, "Ladies first." and gestures to me. Instantly the waitress rolls her eyes and I smirk, telling her that I want oatmeal with a side of bacon. She writes it down and then gestures back to Avi, getting close to him and eyeing him seductively. I try not to slam my first down and tell her to back off but instead I just look out the window, watching the passerby's. Avi tells her waffles with a side of bacon, sausage, eggs and toast. I eye him surprisingly as he tells her an overly huge order. She giggles and writes it down, and then saunters away once again.
"Um, fat much?" I say with a teasing tone.
"I ordered the eggs and toast for you Kirstin, just in case the cooks spit in your food. Oh and uh..." He winks and then switches our coffees so that mine belongs to him and his belongs to me. I giggle and take a sip of Avi-er-my coffee.
We start to catch up, and I'm really happy to hear that Avi's been doing well. He says that he's been able to visit so many beautiful landmarks in the past year. He also mentions that he's found a new love for photography. Avi has been spending time either writing in the studio, hanging out with his family, or out traveling and seeing the world.
Honestly traveling with Avi sounds like so much fun. I really miss having these kind of chats with him. We used to be so close before...well, you know.
"What about you? How's the new bass?" I could tell by the way he says this that he could honestly care less. I decide to be honest with him.
"Honestly, he's okay but he's no where near as talented as you were Avi." I give him a genuine smile and he looks down, blushing. I decide to continue. "Also, you kept us focused and I feel like that's how we got stuff done. Matt is fun and all but he goofs off a lot. Although that can be fun, it's hard too when we want to get stuff done." I try to not sound like I'm begging for him back. It's hard though because honestly we were so much better when we were together, I don't know why.
"That's a shame, he seems really nice. I miss Pentatonix." He says, very briefly. I could tell there was more he waned to say but I don't ask. We sit in silence when the slutty waitress comes back with our food. We dig in and Avi pushes the plate of eggs and toast towards me. I gesture him no.
"Kirst it's okay, just eat it." He said, winking.
I finish my oatmeal and eye the plate of eggs and toast.
Eh. What the hell.
