Aqueous' Point Of View
****************************
"C'mon Q, it'll be fun." Max says trying to win me over.
"I can't. We have to study for the math finals tomorrow."
"Ugh! You're such a debby-downer! Hey, you might meet a cute boy in there..." Max says trailing off.
"No! I'm sorry. I can't let a boy or any other distractions get in the way of my scholarship." I object trying not to hurt her feelings. She turns and starts walking down the sidewalk, "You know why I'm doing this, right?" I say making sure she's not annoyed at me.
"Ya Ya, it's for the swim team." she says turning around to walk backwards while flashing a smiling towards my way.
Knowing she wasn't mad, I closed the door and headed up stairs to my room. It was a bit spooky being alone, my dad rarely leaves me home. I walk into my room with my plate of fruit I set out earlier. Sitting down at my desk, I login to my Mac to study the theorems of geometry.
After about an hour I head downstairs to refill my cup. I open a package of popcorn and put it in the microwave. As the popcorn cooked I sat down at my table, and got on my phone, scrolling through my feed. I stop when I see an ad about a missing girl and boy. I click it and gasp as I see my picture on the ad.
What the!? What the heck!? I think shocked, then look to see who the boy is. The name reads: Zephyr.
Wait, Zephyr, that's the kid that went missing last year. I think to myself.
I jump out of my thoughts when I hear a noise coming from upstairs. I go to my dads room, which is conveniently placed on the first floor, to grab a pistil that he keeps in his night stand for safety reasons. As I head towards the stairs, I grab the phone and dial 911, being careful not to press call just in case.
I creep, one step at a time, up the stairs with the pistil in my hands. My stomach feels like it's hanging out my mouth, due to my scared state.
As I go to open my dads office, I hear another thud come from my room. I aim the gun, and start to tip toe toward my room. As I peer inside, my body nearly collapses at the sight of Max stuck in my window.
"Oh my gosh, Q! Thank goodness you're here!" she says as she sees me crumble to the ground. "Help, I was coming to scare you...," she starts, but clearly embarrassed, doesn't finish.
"You got stuck!?" I finish her sentence for her and by the look on her face, I know I'm right. "What the heck! You nearly got yourself killed," gesturing to the pistil, "Made me dial 911, and have a heart attack!"
I help her into my room, and set the pistil down on my dresser. I stop and stare at her causing us to burst out laughing.
"I still can't believe you got stuck in my window!" I say through waves of giggles. After we finish and catch our breath, we sit down to even out our breathing.
"I feel so stupid, I mean I got stuck, in the window, in the-" Max starts but stops. I peer over to her and see a look of terror on her face.
"Max?" I question the puzzled look on her face.
"Q, the- there's som- someone behind you!" She whispers trying not to scare me but obviously succeeding.
I slowly turn, but before I could get a glance, something slams into the back of my head. Things start to go groggy, and I only catch a few things.
Max screaming my name.
A guy walking towards me.
And a girl with a gun pointed at my best friend.
