{Prompt: Write a poem about hanging out with a friend or friends.}

Chirps break through sleeping eardrums

Soft light cracks through the curtains

Someone awakens from slumber in seconds,

Opening eyes
to a brand
new
day.

The darkness beforehand

Brings back memories of the past night

And the night before then
And the week before that

Even just one second ago.

Steady streams of happiness and laughter

Cracked by low self esteem.

Your facade becoming a reality,

Your smile covering up the truth,

The hidden truth
The one you refuse to show.

Its okay. They
can't see
through your
facade.

Succumb to the loneliness and pain you feel with them

Hide your despair while in sight

The monsters behind your eyes will pinch and pull

Until
You
Crack.

Let them breathe, live, inhale the false truths
someone has
told them
over
the years.

Sink into the past nights,
weeks,
months,

Years you have spent
feeding them the happiness
they thought

you had.
