ALYCE POV
I hobbled on my crutches as I heard murmurs behind me.
"You got this Ally." Tyler's voice echoed from behind me.
"You know how much I hate crutches right? They are the most annoying thing ever. They hurt my armpits and you are basically helpless when you use them." I said with a hint of aggravation. I really did hate crutches. In eighth grade, I refused to wear crutches and instead I got a little bike. Humiliating, but better than crutches.
"Which is why I am your personal slave for the next-" Tyler checked the papers the doctor gave him, "two weeks."
"I could get used to that." I smirked. Then I shook my head. "Wait no, I don't like being helpless. I am independent. I do not need help."
"Alyce, look at you. You are the textbook definition of helpless right now." Chris pointed out.
"Chris, don't be on his side." I whined. "Hey when did you two decide to go against me on everything I say? Is there an alleged bromance beginning to form?" I laughed.
They exchanged glances embarrassingly. "Us?" They said in harmony.
"Yes, y'all. Did y'all form a knitting group and a book reading club while I was out, too?" Tyler immediately winced at my words. He looked down with pain in his eyes.
"Tyler, are you okay?" I questioned.
"I'm f-fine." He muttered, which was not very convincing.
"Chris, will you give us a minute?" I said without breaking eye contact on Tyler.
Chris gave me a dirty look. I gave him one back motioning for him to leave. He rolled his eyes then walked out the room.
I took my hand off of one of the crutches and grabbed his hand. "Tyler, what is wrong?" I whispered in a calm voice.
"It was just when you said you were out. Like you were just taking a nap or something. You were fighting, fighting for your life Alyce. It is not something I take lightly. Your safety is-"
"Tyler, I am sorry. But I am here now, aren't I? I am okay. I am as healthy as a horse." He raised his eyebrow at me. "Okay well on the road to recovery to be that way, but still. I am getting there. But the important thing is I am fine. You don't need to worry anymore."
"No Alyce, you aren't understanding what I am trying to say. I thought you were going to die." He immediately breaks down. He puts his head into my shoulder.
"I am so sorry. I wish this never happened." I sobbed.
"Why are you apologizing? I am not the one who got hurt. I shouldn't be allowed to be upset. Why am I so damn upset?" Tyler looked at me with real confusion in his eyes.
"Tyler, you thought you were losing someone that you love. You have the right to be just as upset as anyone right now. You were scared. It is okay to be scared. I was scared, too." I reassured him.
"Y-yeah, I guess you are right. I just did not think you deserved to see me like this. It is not fair to you."
"Hey, we are in this together all right? I don't want you to ever feel like you can't tell me how you feel. I want to know, okay? Your feelings are valid. I love you Tyler. So much. You know that? Thank you for standing up like that for me. No one has ever done anything like that for me." I smiled after I kissed him.
"I love you too. I was just doing my job." He humbly shrugged his shoulders.
"Alright then, you feel better now?" I asked.
