meanwhile, sana laid her bed after school, fiddling with her phone charger, wondering if she should call momo. while she was contemplating, the phone started to ring and sana answered it too fast. "hello?" she asked, hoping to hear a certain voice on the other end.
"hi, sana." jeongyeon said.
sana's shoulders dropped. "oh, hi jeong." sana replied.
"don't be too happy to hear me." jeongyeon said. "why weren't you at school today? we missed you."
sana sighed, laying back down. "i'm sick."
jeongyeon snorted. "yeah, right."
sana gasped. "i am!" she let out a few weak coughs, and then a giggle.
jeongyeon joined her. "you should come over to my house." she suggested. "nayeon had to stay at school, and i'm bored and i miss my favorite japanese girl."
sana grinned. maybe she should. she hasn't left her house in a few days, anyway. it'd be better than laying in bed, depressed all day. "okay."
she hung up and brushed her hair, and then walked out the door. her parents weren't home, and probably wouldn't be until sana got home.
she got to jeongyeon's house. jeongyeon was already outside, on a skateboard. she was trying to steady herself. sana sneaked up behind her and grabbed her waist with a yell.
jeongyeon screamed and fell off, but sana caught her. once she saw who it was, she hit sana's shoulder. "bully!" she teased. sana laughed loudly and hit her back.
the went to jeongyeon's backyard and laid down in the grass, talking about what ever came to mind. they started doing this a lot once momo left. it made sana think of her.
"i can't believe it's almost been a year since momo left." jeongyeon said, quietly. sana winced. she didn't want to think of her.
"yeah." is all sana could mutter.
"she's almost like a stranger now." jeongyeon said, even quieter.
sana started to cry. what could she say? she was a crier. everyone knew it was easy to many minatozaki sana cry. it was even easier when hirai momo was brought up.
jeongyeon sighed, sitting up and pulling sana with her. she hugged sana tightly. "i'm sorry. i shouldn't have brought her up." jeongyeon said.
sana sniffled, resting her head on jeongyeon's shoulder. "i miss her so much. we've barely talked since we argued because i'm too sensitive. jeongyeon, why am i so sensitive?" sana said, beginning to cry harder.
jeongyeon stroked sana's head. "you aren't that sensitive." she said. "you had a right to be mad. you were her best friend."
sana flinched at 'were'.
jeongyeon let sana go and pulled her knees up to her chest. "you should go see her." she said, turning her head towards sana.
sana shook her head. "i can't. not yet. plus, no one can take me. you and nayeon can't drive yet and my parents would never take me."
jeongyeon looked away, resting her head on her kneecaps. "someday you should. whether it's tomorrow, next month, next year, or when you're 35. i can tell she needs you." she said softly.
sana looked at jeongyeon, but she didn't look back. after a small silence, they changed the subject and talked until it got dark.
when sana arrived home, her parents greeted her. "what the hell are you doing out so late?" her mother asked. sana looked at the clock. "it's not even 9 o'clock yet."
her mother shook her head. "i don't care. i told you you're not allowed out when it's dark." she said.
sana shrugged. "it got dark while i was walking home." her mother glared at her for a few seconds, and then grabbed a pack of cigarettes and went outside.
sana went back to her room and looked at her phone. she had a missed call from nayeon, and some messages from other girls from school. but none from momo.
she never got one from her.
