Blake's Point of View
The Christmas tree was wrapped in bright lights and tinsel, with spheres just as colorful. Stockings hung on the wall, filled with candy and small presents. There was even mistletoe in the corner, which I yearned to stand under. This apartment definitely screamed Christmas.Sitting in Krissy's apartment felt weird. The last time I was here, I was confessing my feelings for her after not seeing her in years. Not to mention that the last time I saw her, I was asking her out on a date. I did everything I could to be able to take her out on that Friday after my court case, but it seemed like life had other plans. No matter what I tried, I either had football or she had another case to deal with. Fate was definitely not on my side.
When my sister asked Krissy and Morgan to host Christmas, I took that as the best opportunity to tell Krissy I had it all figured out. I had the greatest idea for our date. Nothing would be able to ruin it. Not even fate.
Walking into her apartment, was a world wind of different emotions. I was mostly excited to finally call her mine again, but I was also nervous that she had changed her mind. All I knew going into this holiday was that I was going to make her fall in love with me all over again.
"Is your game tomorrow?" Sophie asked. She was munching on some cookies that Morgan made. They looked delicious, but I ignored my temptation. I needed to stay fit for the game. It was the last one before playoffs.
"Our game is on Christmas Day. So, we are spending Christmas Eve here." Carlos clarified to the girls. He then reached for a cookie. I frowned. Coach would kill him if he saw him eating a fatty object. I was jealous of Carlos' carelessness. I didn't want to further Coach's hatred for me.
Speaking of Coach, he heard about my arrest. I'm not sure from where, but he didn't seem as mad. Okay, that's bullshit. I had to run suicides for about an hour before he let me get a drink of water. He then allowed the guys to tackle me for another twenty minutes. My whole body was exhausted and I still had to run two hours worth of drills. I wasn't sure if Coach took pity on me or not. Asher told him about Krissy breaking my heart which caused this whirlwind of my regrets. I wasn't happy about him knowing. It was only a matter of time before everyone else knew about my arrest and failure.
"Since we only have twenty-four hours before four out of the six of us has to leave for the game, I took the liberty of planning everything out. It would have been easier if we had a tradition to go by, but we can make our own now. So, the first thing on our list is to make decorations for the tree." Morgan said scrolling through her phone. I stared at her. She had a while to plan and this was the best she could do? We aren't five.
"I love you M, but what about we go out and play in the snow. We can even go ice skating downtown." Krissy suggested. I nodded. Playing in the snow on Christmas Eve reminds me of the day I confessed my feelings to Krissy. It was also the day I found out about Kate, but that's unimportant now.
"That is a much better idea. We can even take pictures and drink hot cocoa!" Sophie said nodding. Morgan rolled her eyes. She hated not being right. That's something I learned from hanging out with her and the girls all those years.
"Fine, fine. Let's go. Just let us change into something warmer." Morgan said standing up. The two girls followed her down the hall.
"Dude, why does the room feel so weird between you and Kris?" Carlos asked whispering. He glanced down the hall where the girls disappeared. I looked, half expecting them to come back already. But, I knew better. They were going to take a couple of minutes to get ready.
"Because this idiot," Asher said whacking the back of my head, "asked Krissy out and has stood her up."
"I did not." I said narrowing my eyes at the person who I thought I could call my best friend. He was swimming in dangerous territory. He knows that is not what happened. He also knows how much I want to go on this date. "We both haven't had time to go out. But, I have the best date planned out. It's going to be a part of her gift."
