Why did I jinx it?!
I stare fearfully at the dark storm clouds at the top of the mountain, constantly firing off lightning. Of course, the nunchucks of lighting would be in the middle of a lighting storm. The only reason I'm not entirely mortified about heading up there, is my confusion towards what my eyes see at the very top.
"Are those... giant nunchucks?" Cole points out, looking on in disbelief at the sight. A gigantic pair of nunchucks is stretching up into the clouds. Not what I was expecting to be honest.
"Yeah! Aren't they awesome!" Jay shouts excitedly.
"What's with the backpacks?" Kai looks at the pile in Jay's hands weirdly.
"Oh, right!" Jay gives everyone one. When he hands one to me, I can feel how lightweight it is, but also the hard structure of whatever is folded inside. "This is the newest model of an invention I've been working on. It's a glider. It will help us get down the mountain faster once we get the Nunchucks of Lightning."
"S-So... This is what you were... working on, on the way here?" I rhetorically ask, remembering him hard at work on something.
"Does this thing even work?" Kai looked unconvinced as he stared at it.
"Yes!" Jay said enthusiastically, then his eyes looked to the side, and he nervously laughed. "I mean... It should."
Kai just slung it on, "We're wasting time, let's go." He said, impatient as always.
We all slipped the backpacks on and begun the arduous climb. It actually isn't as hard as climbing the mountain to the monastery since it isn't as steep. I realize that maybe Sensei made us climb that mountain to prepare us for this one. After climbing the monastery's mountain for several painstaking hours, finding where to put my hands and feet is a breeze.
Eventually, we make it to the top and come face to face with the giant nunchucks. Now that I'm closer, I can see the handles are made up of maroon rocks. It's also cold up here, enough for snow on the ground, but the crackle and strikes of lightning are more of my concern right now. I can feel the static in the very air because there's so much.
Jay, excited as he is about getting his weapons, rushes to be the first to climb. The rest of us follow, with me taking up the rear. Flinching every time lightning would strike too close for my liking. Heart pounding away in my chest, I make it to the top of the first handle with the others. I eye the metal chain wearily at the thought of a single lightning strike hitting it and electrocuting us. I involuntarily shiver. What a morbid thought that was.
"We're being followed!" Zane shouted over the thundering storm.
I whipped around to see a large group of skulkin climbing the mountain, fast. We hurried onto climbing the mile long chain. I pushed my overwhelming fear down, sucking it up and climbed, getting the nunchucks are more important. However, that didn't stop me from shaking in fear as adrenaline pumps through my veins. Keep going, keep going! The quicker we get to the top, the quicker we can leave this crazy place!
When the skulkin begin climbing the chain, we reached the second handle. Filled with urgency, we scaled the cracked rocks. Jay reaches the top and pulls himself up. We stop and hang on the side, letting Jay get the golden weapon. I look down at the skulkin advancing at a steady pace. Their red irises eerily glow in the dark of the storm.
"Ha! Alright!" I hear Jay shout happily. I look up to see the blue ninja hold out the Nunchucks of Lightning for us to see, glowing in all their glory. I smile at the sight of them, but then freeze. That feeling of overwhelming danger is back. A feeling of something bad about to come. That means...!
