Chapter 1: Water tribe

*Amaya's POV*

"Amaya! Korra! Mika! Come here, we have visitors" My mother called from our hut as my sisters and I played in the newly fallen snow.

We ran back into the house to see three men in blue attire staring down at us. My family and I live in the Southern Water Tribe. I have two sisters and a brother but my brother lives in the city.

"Girls, these nice men are here to ask you a few questions" my mother smiled "about your bending skills."

We nodded as she left the room and left us alone with the strange older men.

"Hello girls. Korra, Amaya, Mika. You three are very special. One of you is the avatar and the other two should be very proud." The man in the middle said.

"Mika. What element do you bend? I know that both your parents are water benders but it's been known to be different" one of the others said.

She nodded "I'm an Earth Bender." she spoke soft while playing with the hem of her green shirt. The man nodded with a smile and turned to me "Amaya, What can you bend?"

"Fire" I muttered. He nodded and turned to Korra.

Korra smiled and proceeded to bend a small puddle on the floor along with making fire shoot out of her fists and lifting a big chunk of the floor before setting it down.

"It's the Avatar" the men spoke in awe at my younger sister. I turned to Mika who was placing the floor back into its correct spot before sitting down.

"Korra, you will need to be protected and trained in our special facility" the man said with a smile as my mother came in the room again.

"Hey Lee, Nice to see you again!" I smile as I walk through Republic City towards the arena to practice.

I'm now 19 years old and can fire bend almost as good as a master. Ever since that evening, when Iroh and the other men discovered my sister being the Avatar, I rarely ever saw Korra.

She had been put into a Secret "protective" facility and kept there. She was rarely ever let out and when she was she always came to visit Mika and I.

I came to Republic City when I was 14 with Mika to live on our own. We share an apartment near the coast even though all that we see are Supply Ships we still love the view.

Mika was already at the arena practicing so I decided to head down there to join in.

I spotted the massive arena up ahead and made my way inside and down to the gym to see Mika shooting stone disks at the net with speed and force.

"Hey Mika" I say placing my bag on the bench and stretching a little before watching her stance for a minute.

"Hey Amaya" she grunts as she sends a disk flying toward the net before turning around and smiling at me, her dark hair sticking to her sweaty forehead.

"Where's Ryo?" I ask sending flames out of my fists and towards a flame resistant dummy.

"He said he'd be here soon" she said grabbing her water. "Nice form Amaya! Very strong!"

I smile and continue demolishing the dummy until our water bending teammate, Ryo, comes running in.

Ryo was a little older than us with dark black hair that hung in his eyes and light blue eyes that stuck our against his hair.

"Hey" I heard Mika say as he pulls the water cart over and begins warming up.

After a few hours, we ended up in a circle with a weight ball just throwing it back and forth.

"What are you guys doing here?" Ryo asked two boys that were walking into the gym.

"I thought this gym was for everyone" the shorter one exclaimed putting his bag on the bench.

"Wait, don't I know you guys?" I asked stepping closer.

They hesitated until it clicked. "I know, you guys used to live over on 46th. You lived two doors down from us" I said.

"Yea we did. I'm Bolin and this is my brother Mako" he smiled as he shook my hand while Mako stared at me.

"So you guys are the Capital City Catgators?" Mako smirked down at me.

"So you guys are the Fire Ferrets?" Mika mimicked his actions until he stopped and smiled at us.

"You guys are cool"

I rolled my eyes and turned to Bolin "You're an earthbender right?" I smiled.

He smiled "yup. Which one of you is the earth bender? He can't be because he's a water bender unless you know, he's the avatar which is highly unlikely" he laughed as his brother smirked and chuckled.

I turned to Mika and froze before turning back to the brother duo.

"Guess" We crossed our arms in unison and smirked.

They both thought hard and thorough before deciding it was me.

I laughed and shot flames at Mako who redirected it towards me.

"Fine" I sighed before shooting lightning at him as Bolin and Mika walked over to the rock disks as Mako and I kept trying to defeat the other.

"You're good for a girl" He have in after about 20 minutes of fighting each other. Ryo had left while I was fighting with Mako and Mika was talking to Bolin who had forgotten about practice.

I checked my watch and saw it was getting late "Mika! Leave your new boyfriend and come on we have a long walk home!"

She blushed causing Mako to chuckle and exclaim "Bolin, you can kiss her later! Come on."

I high fived him as Mika came glaring at me "Amaya! Could you not!"

"If you want, you guys can stay with us tonight" Bolin said walking up trying to conceal the blush that had spread across his cheeks.

"We couldn't do that. I have to get to the Electricity Factory in the morning for work. We couldn't impose" I explain as Mika agrees non stop.

"Don't worry Amaya, Mako works at the electricity factory too so it's all good! Besides it's not any trouble" Bolin smiled.

I sighed and gave in, letting Mika cheer and follow Bolin out of the gym and down the hall.

"So where do you guys live now?" I ask Mako who turns to me from where he was watching the lovebirds run out the door.

"We live in the attic" he says as he places his hand on the small of my back and leads me up to their place.

"It's not much but it's home" he mutters.

"Are you sure we can stay here? It's not too much trouble?" I say making sure we're not being a burden.

"Not at all. You can sleep in my bed. Your sister's probably sleeping in Bolin's"

I smile as I see Bolin and Mika cuddling in his bed. "Keep it PG!" I yell taking off my over shirt.

"I'll sleep on the floor Mako, it's okay" I say as I begin to lay down on the wooden floor and use my shirt as a pillow.

I hear a sigh before I'm lifted up and placed on the bed and covers are pulled up over me. I thank him and sigh. I freeze as the bed dips on one side, telling me that Mako had gotten into bed.

"Goodnight" he whispers, laying much closer to me than I thought he'd be, causing me to shudder.

"Goodnight" I sigh before closing my eyes and letting my head sink into the pillow. I tense up as I feel an arm wrap around my waist but let it go and let myself drift to sleep.
