Chapter 5 - Emblem

"Sasha, stay here with (Y/N) as we go inside."

I threw him an offended look, motioning to the gas station we were in front of. "Why can't I go in?" I asked.

Gene laughed as some of his black hair fell in front of his eyes. "You look too young. If you were to go in, we would definitely get busted."

"Oh, yeah. The uniforms definitely wouldn't give that away."

Gene glared over at me before he signaled for his other friend to go with him inside the store.

"I'm your age!" I yelled. After a few seconds, I gave up, leaning on the wall next to Sasha. Based on her posture, she seemed very calm and accustomed to everything by now. I bit my lip as I looked over at her, feeling a bit nervous being around her.

"Is there something wrong with my face?" She asked, causing me to jump in surprise.

"N-No, I just-" I stopped for a second to recollect my thoughts, "You seem really quiet."

"Is that a bad thing?" She raised her eyebrow at me.

My cheeks began to redden and for once, I couldn't wait for Gene to get out of the gas station.

"No, you just seem different from Gene and his friend. It's just really unusual to think that you're in the Shadow Knights," I told her regardless of the regret I felt. I didn't want to judge them, but for some reason, I just couldn't stop the thoughts from coming to my mind.

Sasha eyed me, trying to decipher what I said. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know," I sighed, not sure at all what I was talking about, "I guess you seem more calming than them?"

Although it was subtle, I still noticed the slight smile on her face, "They may be a bit more intense than me but they're sure teddy bears once you get to know them."

I chuckled at the thought of Gene being a little innocent teddy bear. Haha, impossible.

"We're ready, let's go."

I jumped up, startled by the sudden booming voice next to me. Gene gave me a puzzled look, causing me to glare at him.

"Don't scare me like that! You know, you could be a bit more subtle!"

He laughed, handing me the plastic bags to carry, "No can do, little dove."

I stared at the bags in his hands with a raised eyebrow. "What do you want me to do with those?"

Gene looked at me disappointingly before practically shoving them in my hands, "Carry them, obviously."

Yeah, he's an innocent little teddy bear for sure.

Once we finally got to the bridge they wanted to stay at, I dropped the bags, no longer caring if the things in it were fragile or not. Gene glared at me as a spray can roll out of the plastic and onto the grass.

"If you broke anything, you're paying me for it, little dove"

I rose my hands up in surrender and smiled at him, "I'm not the one who chose to buy all this stuff, Romeo."

Sasha chuckled at the nickname while Zenix rose an eyebrow at Gene suspiciously. If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under right now.

Instead of throwing more insults, Gene bent down and sorted through the bags I dropped until he pulled out a red spray can. I carefully watched him as he smirked at Zenix and Sahsa before shaking the can.

"What are you going to do?" I asked him harshly, looking around for any people who could be lurking.

"Hey, it's okay. We do this all the time and we never get caught."

I was too slow to stop him before he wrote the initials "SK" on the bridge with the bright red spray paint.

"Are you crazy!" I shouted, making the three spin their heads toward me with displeased looks.

"We'll be caught if you scream that loud."

As they turned back around to finish whatever they were painting, I frowned, noticing that no one really cared if teenagers were randomly in a park during school hours. I tried to focus on their painting, not wanting to be anxiously watching for anyone to come out of the bushes and get us in trouble.

"What do you think, little dove?" Gene asked with a smirk, stepping away with the spray paint in his hand.

I studied the symbol, my eyes attracted to the large red SK in the middle of the black circle with a pink skull to the left of it.

"Amateur," I tried to sound serious, "What does it even stand for? I can't read your handwriting."

Gene shot me a deadly glare before pointing to the obvious SK on the side of the bridge. "It stands for Shadow Knights. Even though you're a senior, you seem to have the intelligence of a third grader."

I laughed, throwing my head back in exasperation. "Sure, sure. Whatever makes you sleep at night."

Zenix gave me a smug look and whispered in Gene's ear, causing Gene to punch him in the arm.

"Idiot," Gene mumbled, stuffing the spray cans into the plastic bags from earlier.

"I'm just saying!" Zenix chuckled. Sasha raised an eyebrow at him and nudged him, telling Zenix to tell her the joke.

Zenix glanced at me before whispering in Sasha's ear, causing me to widen my eyes. "Tell me!" I said, worried that they were talking bad about me.

"Can't do that," Zenix replied with the same smug look, "You're not a part of the Shadow Knights yet."

Yet? Haha, like I'll ever be one of those. I groaned, disappointed that I was the only one not in on the joke.

"It's okay, little dove, it wasn't anything that important," Gene commented.

"Everything's more important than you," I responded, irritated that I was still here. "Can we just go now or do we have to wait for someone?"

"We haven't eaten yet (Y/n)," Sasha said, "You're already late to class, there's no rush to get back now."

I rolled my eyes, just wanting to get out and breathe for a moment. "Where's the food?"

I said I would get this out this week and look at this! I did it in time! Yay me!

Anyway, I have 3 minutes before I have to go to sleep so I'm going to hurry this up a bit and not talk as much.

I hope you all have a wonderful time and spring break is just around the corner! (Hopefully. It's in two weeks for me)

I love you all so much! <3
