There's one thing you should never do to anyone, and that is ask them if they love you. And you should never force someone to say they love you either. It's awful and can just push people further away. It's basically hinting at what you want with no real regard for the other person. Heartbreak is more painful afterwards. It can also make the other person feel significantly worse if they don't truly feel how you clearly want them to feel. Like "do you love me...?" "Yes, of course." But they don't and it makes them feel sick to their stomach because they don't want to break your heart.
