I blink awake when I feel the weight on the bed shift and a low grumble from Matt. "Babe." I rub my hand across my face and roll over to look at him. He sits on the edge of the bed scowling and holding a phone out to me. I look at him and then the phone confused, "Your brother is an idiot." I push myself up so I'm sitting before grabbing the phone and pushing of the bed.
"Go back to sleep Matt, you look exhausted." He mumbles something and drops all the way onto the bed closing his eyes as soon as his head hits the pillow. I glance at him one more time before leaving the room. "Why on Gods green earth are you calling at bloody one in the freaking morning?" I snap into the phone, hoping my irritation is clear.
"How about because I'm excited and can't sleep?" I groan and throw my head back, before moving to the kitchen.
I grab a mug out of the cupboard and set it on the counter, using one hand to start the coffee machine. "Yeah, and now I'll never be able to get back to sleep. Jerk."
Jake's voice comes down the phone into my ear, "We got a call from the adoption agency Cas. They approved us." I hear the excitement in his voice and grin.
"Okay, I'll admit that is amazing news and I get why you couldn't sleep but, one am Jake? Seriously? I hope Amber burns all your cookies." I hear him gasp.
"NO! BABE DON'T KILL THE COOKIES THEY'RE INNOCENT! I'M SORRY!" I hear her shout something in reply and hang up before he can keep talking. Setting the phone on the counter, I turn it to silent and move to the coffee machine noticing it is almost done and lean against the solid surface of the counter. Several minutes later the sound from the machine stops and I grab the handle of the pot carefully moving it to pour the steaming liquid into the waiting mug. Once my mug is full I slide the pot back into its resting place, to keep it warm. I glance at the clock on the microwave and see 1:23am. I sigh and make my way over to the couch and lower myself down pulling a blanket over my lap and click on the tv, turning the volume down low. I look over my shoulder and down the hallway still hearing the faint sounds of Matthews snores. Flipping through the channels I settle on the channel playing reruns of season three of CSI.
I feel the weight from the blanket move up my body, and blink awake. I blink again, letting my eyes focus to see Matt bent over above me. "Sorry, sweetheart. I didn't mean to wake you up." I sigh and move one arm form under the blanket and reach for his hand pulling him down next to me. He sits next to me, leaning against the corner of the couch and I scoot over so I'm leaning against him and pull the blanket tight around us. Resting my head against his chest and listening to the steady thump of his heartbeat, I feel my eyes drooping closed once again.
I wake up some time later and am overcome with the feeling of nausea. Pushing up from Matthew's hold I toss the blanket to the floor, and rush to the bathroom. I can hear Matt calling my name behind me but keep moving. Reaching the tile, I sink to the ground next to the toilet and lean heavily against the cool surface as I feel the bile rising, and lean over as I feel the mornings coffee leave my body. Suddenly a warm pair of hands are on my back, one pulling my hair back, away from my face, and the other rubbing up and down against the tight muscles. As the nausea passes I lean back against him, and close my eyes for a brief moment. "You doing okay Cassie?" I hear his voice fill the room from behind me and shrug gently as to not move to fast.
"Yeah," My voice cracks as the word comes out. "I don't think coffee without food was a good idea." I reach forward grabbing a square of toilet paper to wipe my face, before tossing it in the toilet and closing the lid. Matt reaches from behind me pressing the handle to flush, before pressing a gentle kiss to the side of my head.
"I love you." I smile at him and rest my cheek against his solid chest for a minute.
"I love you too." I whisper as I carefully pull myself up on the counter, washing my hands and then brushing my teeth. I make a face at the nasty taste in my mouth and quickly rinse with the mint mouth wash. My teeth now clean and breath fresh I turn to face Matt and press my lips tp his in what was planned to be a short kiss. His hand slides up my arm and works its way into my hair, while his other hand cradles my body closer to his.
