Four Months Later
XxXxXxX
I glance at the clock in the kitchen as I enter the apartment, seeing the time is 2:57 pm, and know Matthew won't be home for another hour. I set my purse on the counter and bring the grocery bags into the kitchen, putting everything in the proper places.
After everything is in its place I grab the last plastic bag and walk down the hall towards the bathroom. I enter the bathroom and close the door behind me, then turn to look in the mirror. i take a deep breath, sucking in a lungful of air and slowly let it out. "It'll be fine. Just pee on the damn stick and wait." I mutter to myself duping out the bag on the counter. Three different boxes fall out, one almost sliding off to the ground. I line each box up and scan over the instructions on each, before opening the each box.
Five minutes later the three tests are lined up on the side of the tub, staring up at me as I pace the floor, having already shoved the bath mat against the wall. I run my hand through my hair for the fifth time in the last thirty seconds and let out a shaky breath. This is actually happening. I suspected, but didn't think it would actually be true. I look at the tests again and see two plus signs and on test with two bright pink lines. I stare at my reflection in the mirror, scanning my face, and then turning my gaze down to my middle. I gently move my hand up and rest it across my belly. "Hey, there little one. How do you think I should tell your daddy?" I whisper as I stare at myself in the mirror. I turn around and gather the tests up, before exiting the bathroom. Pausing in the hallway I open the closet and crouch down to look through the bottom. I smile when I find a small silver bag that shines as the light hits it. Standing up I hold the bag and push the door to the closet closed. I hurry to the kitchen and place the bag on the counter before walking over to the desk in the corner of the living room and digging through to find a small section of blue tissue paper, and the box of cards. Carrying both over to the counter, I glance at the time and see I only have about twenty minutes until Matt is due home. I sort through the cards until I find two baby cards, I bought months ago because they were cute, and look between the two. The first is a solid yellow card with black scroll across the front reading So Some Storks Dropped By..... with a little white stork in the bottom corner and on the inside it says Congratulations on your little one arriving soon.
The second card is white with sparkly blue and pink polka dots across the front, along with the words, I can count can you? It goes One, Two..... and turning to the inside its says And then it's three. You, Mommy, and soon to be me. Congratulations Daddy.
I put the yellow card away before returning the box to the desk and quickly put together and tissue paper and tests stuffing them into the silver bag. I glance at the clock and grab a pen, writing on the inside of the card. Love, Mommy and baby. I stick the card down the side of the bag before carrying it all over to the couch and slide it onto the shelf under the coffee table. As I stand up I hear the sound of the key in the lock, and walk into the kitchen to begin the search for food. I hear the door click shut followed by footsteps coming towards me. "Hello beautiful." I smile, and turn to face Matthew stretching up to kiss his cheek.
"Hi. Did you have a good day?" I ask stepping back and looking up at him, his face covered in dust, and his shirt pulled tight against his muscles.
He shrugs and bends down kissing me, "It was alright. I didn't get thrown or kicked, so that's always a plus." He grins at me as I watch him. "Hey, sweetheart. I'm fine, it's a horse ranch, not some bull fighting ring." I nod and step around him, opening the fridge. "We need to get to the store Cas. I can just order pizza tonight and we can go tomorrow, since neither of us work." I shrug and close the fridge turning to face him as he pulls out his phone. He places the order and grins at me as he hangs up. "About half an hour. Gives us the perfect time to shower."
I raise my eyebrows at him and cross my arms, "Us? And where did this us come from, dear husband?" He steps forward and pulls me to him.
"You see just over four years ago we tied this special knot... And now your stuck with me." He quickly sneaks his hands down around my hips and lifts me up hurrying down the hall to the bathroom.
"Matthew! Put me down!" I squeal as he carries me into the bathroom. He nods before releasing me, leaving me sitting on the counter. He quickly turns on the water before turning back to me. He stops in front of me and leans forward pressing our foreheads together.
"I love you Cassie." He whispers before stepping back and stripping from his clothing before hopping into the warm water.

I sit on the couch leaning against Matts chest enjoying the feeling of his strong arms wrapped around me as we watch the movie on TV. I turn my head slightly so I can see his face, and smile slightly at the look of concentration on his face, as he focuses on the screen. I shift my position and reach forward to grab the bag under the table. His arm tightens around me before I can grab it, "Where are you going?" He asks as he buries his face in my neck, trailing soft kisses up my jaw.
I let out a long sigh of contentment and pull away. "I was trying to get your present." He immediately releases his grip on me and a look of confusion crosses his face.
"Did I miss something? It's not our anniversary I know that." He pulls out his phone, and I snatch it from him setting it behind me.
"No, babe. You didn't miss anything." I say as I pass the small bag over to him. He looks down at it and places it in his lap. He reaches in slowly as if expecting it to bite him and grabs the card. His eyes shift back and forth as he reads the front and then flips to the inside. His eyes widen and he looks up at me. His mouth opens slightly as he looks back down at the card then back to me. "Look in the bag, before you pass out." I tell him as I watch him.
He sticks his hand in again and comes up with the wad of tissue paper, which he carefully un-ravels revealing the three test. His eyes widen even more, to an almost impossible size as he stares at the tests for a long moment before staring at me. "A baby?" He whispers and watches me, "You're pregnant?" I nod laughing at him, and he leaps up causing everything to hit the floor as he wraps his arms around me. "Oh my gosh Cassie. A baby? We're gonna have a baby?" I grin at him as he sets me back onto the couch and crouches in front of me. He stretches his hand out and rests it on my belly. I reach my hand forward and rest my hand on his face, grinning at his goofy look.
"Yes Matthew, a baby. You're gonna be a daddy." He leans forward and kisses me hard on the lips before pulling back and running his hands over my hair, brushing it away from my face. "We have about seven months to prepare if I calculated right, we still have to go to the doctors, but we're gonna have a baby."
"You know what Cas?" He asks staring at me with his warm eyes.
"What?"
"Everyone always says you only fall in love once, but that's not true, because everytime I see you, I fall in love all over again." He whispers as he leans in again kissing my belly this time. "And I'll love this little one just as much. I love you so damn much Cas."
"I love you too Matthew." I say as I run my fingers through his dark hair, feeling the soft curls.
He suddenly pulls back and almost falls onto his ass. "What?" I ask concerned.
"I am so gonna be broke."
