---------------------•--------------

I had the blanket pulled up to my chin, my face burried in the itchy, cheap material. There was a soft knock on the door, "Hey, kiddo." I looked up to see Josh, the tears instantly started falling. "Josh...I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it, this whole thing has made me question peoples motives, their reasoning for doing things. I'm so sorry that I never appriciated everything you did and I'm sorry you had to grow up to soon becuase of me. I'm sorry I yelled and I'm sorry I wasnt a better sister." By this time Josh was situated on the side of my bed, one of his arms under my back, the other rubbing my hand.

"You don't have to be sorry, Sky-"

"Yeah Josh, yeah I do..." I sat up more and looked him in the eyes, "I've been a terrible sister these past few years. I never meant to hurt you."

"Sky, not once did I think you were  a bad sister. I've never loved somebody so much, you have never ever been a bad sister."

"I'm so sorry..."

"I know Sky, I know." Josh hugged me closer as a rested my head on his chest.

The next two weeks that I was there consisted of regaining some strength, hanging out with Mina and Jess, resting, talking to Josh. Hope had to go back to school last week but Josh's semester was up and he didn't have any more classes for four months. I waited for the return of my mother, I hadn't heard from her since the day I yelled at her.

Today was the day I started some real rehab. I was nervous, but Mina and Jess had promised they would come with me. Mike was Mina and Jess's physical therapist who was more than willing to help me recover. Through the week I had learned how to dress myself, eat, get up. All the basics, Jay had been so patient with me, coaching me through the simpilist of tasks. I pushed my legs over the edge of the bed and sat up straight before walking over to my closet like cupboard. Pulling out sweat pants and a baggy t-shirt. That's what my outfits these days had been, easy to but on and something to wear instead of a hospital gown. I slipped on some flipflops and started my journey to the activity room we had reserved for my appointment. The drugs and lack of activity had made the smallest walks seem like marathons. It took my a solid 5 minutes to get to the end of the short hall. When I finally reached the door I paused, I could hear laughter from inside the room. I could identify Mina and Jess' god knows I've heard that alot in the past few weeks. The other laugh boomed through the hallways making me smile instantly. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door, poking my head in.

"Hello! You must be Skyler, pleasure to meet you, I'm Mike." Mike extended his hand in my direction. I took a few steps closer before firmly shaking his hand.

"Nice to meet you too! But please call me Sky!" I moved closer to Jess giving her a quick side hug, then bending down to give Mina a quick hug.

"So, Jay gave me a run down on everything from the past few weeks. From the accident to your road to recovery. Seems like you've had a rough few months, but hopefully I can help you regain some normality to your life. I was hoping we could start by testing some of your stregth to give us a starting point then we can work from there! How does that sound?"

"Perfect."

We spend an hour doing various exersises to determine my current strength. MIna and Jess became my cheerleading squad, urging me to push. Mike was more supportive than I ever could have imagined, he was becoming a friend and I could tell therapy wouldn't be as bad as I expected.

----------------------------------------

Mina and Jess walked me back to my room, commenting on how well I was doing with my recovery. When we arrived in my room I was greeted my a doctor who I met earlier this week. He was position on one of the chairs, his eyes glued to a clip board. "Ummm, Hi Doctor Cooper, can I help you?" I steped infront of Jess and Mina and entered to room.

"Oh sorry Skyler, I lost track of the time. Today is the day we take off that bandage of yours for good! Do you want to grap a seat on the bed?" He gave the side of the bed facing the sink and mirror a pat, signaling for me to sit down.

Taking a deep breath I positioned myslef infornt of the mirror. "Um, would you mind if my friends Miana and Jess sit here with me?"

"Of course! It's great to have friends to support you in this time. I'll go let them in." Doctor Cooper opened the door, inviting MIna and Jess inside. He gave them a quick brief on what he would be doing. They both situated themselves next me me. Jess on my right, tightly griping my hand and rubbing it soothingly. Mina infront of me her hands on my knees giving me a reasuring smile.

"Now, this is going to sting a bit, but it shouldn't be too bad. Let me know if it really hurts. So i'll unrap the bandage and do a quick look around and then you can take a look. Ready to go?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." I took a big breath and shut my eyes.

It only took about 5 minutes, after some wincing and some teeth clenching it was over. "It's looking good! No infections or surprises, everything is looking normal! Would you like to take a look?"

With my eyes still closed I gave a slow nod. I could feel Mina continue to rub my legs.

"On the count of three?" she asked. I nodded in response.

"One, Two, Three," I opened my eyes and stared into the mirror.

I sucked in a deep breath as the tears spilled down my cheek. I pulled my hand out of Jess' grip and gingerly touched the nub. "No..." I broke down right there, My head being pulled closer to Jess' shoulder. She rubbed my back as Mina stroked my hair. "Sky, you're okay, it's all okay," Mina tried to support me.

"Mina, how coud anyone ever love me when I have this," I guestured to my nub, "this ugly scar that will always define who I am."

"I always will." I heard another voice from the door.

OOOOOH cliff hanger, although I'm pretty sure it fairly obvious....maybe.

Thanks again for sticking with me!
