Ch 44
Chandhini went to wash room. She couldn't wait to get back home. She had college tomorrow but it won't matter to Advay.
She was in loo when she heard her name. Some women were talking outside about her.
First woman,'' she looks quite young and innocent.''
Second woman,'' Don't go on her looks. I heard my husband talking with his friends. One of his friend said that he asked Advay that who she was and advay said that she is an orphan who used to live in one of their properties. He didn't say anything further but given their age difference. I think something happened. I think she was the reason swathi and Advay broke up.''
Second woman,''Swathi was so nice. I knew them in states. Such a nice couple and so much in love.''
First woman,''I feel bad for her too. But this gold digger will get her karma too.''
Second woman,'' I was going to invite her to out woman club but now I will tell everyone to stay away from her.''
First woman,'' That's the right thing to do. He will lose interest soon anyway. If swathi couldn't keep him interested, I doubt this girl will be able to do it. Don't know what kind of cheap background this girl has got.''
Chandhini felt like someone had slapped her. She came back to party but she was subdued now. Every stare seemed hostile. She sat in a corner. Someone had just insulted her dead parents based on a supposition.
On the way back she was quiet. Her thoughts a mess. The women said Advay knew and he didn't stop them. How was that possible? He wouldn't do something like this. She looked at the man sitting beside her. Then looked away before he could caught her staring.
When they reached home, she was still in denial. After changing clothes, her eyes fell on watch. It was 1 in morning. She checked her mobile. There were miscalls from baba, ayi, sheekha, her friends and megha and their text messages wishing her birthday. No message from Veer and no message from Advay.
Suddenly she felt very vulnerable. She sat down on bed. Will these people stop texting her too if they got to know about truth?
Gold digger? She thought to herself. Did Veer think same about me and Advay? How many times he had said that she was the orphan his parents took in. Wasn't this the same guy who had taught her to walk and talk? Did he use to think her as a charity project back then?
No, he was just angry at her because she broke his trust. I would do everything the way he wants and with time her old advay will come back to her.
Two arms wrapped around her and pulled her back into a hard chest. ''Happy birthday'', he muttered in her ears. She swallowed the tears clogging her throat. She felt so weak. If he said one word, she will shatter. She leaned against him. He was the man who had loved her most in this world. In his arms she had always felt safe. She tried burrow deeper into his chest seeking comfort. He was surprised.
Chandhini,'' Can I ask for my birthday present?''
Advay thought for a moment,'' anything other than talking to Veer or conditions I have already set.''
Chandhini,'' Please hug me. Just hug me tonight. Nothing more.''
He looked puzzled at this request but agreed. She put her head on his chest and pretended everything was same like before their marriage and slept.
