ALEXANDRA
After mine and Harry's visit to the hospital with our baby, it's safe to say we were a little panicky when it came to Scarlett. With her being our first baby and this being the first time she's ever gotten an ear infection, we wanted to make sure she was with us at all times just so we could see she was okay and in no discomfort whatsoever.
Fortunately, once we began to give her the medication the doctor had prescribed her, the ear infection appeared to be getting better, much to our relief. We had taken her to her usual paediatrician a week after our hospital visit, and she told us that Scarlett should be as good as new in another week or two.
I was getting Scarlett ready for her day with Harry. He was taking her out with him and Anne for a family lunch they were having with one of his aunts who came down from Scotland to visit for a few days, so he asked if it was okay for him to take our daughter. I of course told him it was no problem, he just had to tell me at what time he'd be bringing her back so I could make sure I'd be home on time.
This would be the first time Scarlett would be going out since getting her ear infection, so I opted for a cute little outfit she could show off to her Daddy and Nana.
"Come here, you cheeky little bum!" I laughed as Scarlett crawled farther away from me on my unmade bed. She threw her herself against the soft pillows and covered her tiny body with the white covers so I wouldn't get her.
"Oh no! Where has Scarlett gone?" I fake pouted, watching my daughter peek her little eyes over the cover in her cute attempt at hiding from me.
I climbed onto the opposite side of the bed where she was laying, hearing her little giggles be muffled by the white cover that was on top of her.
"No!" She shrieked when I grabbed her by her tiny hips and hoisted her up in the air, in front of my face.
"What do you mean no? Who do you think you are, little lady?" I huffed playfully, bringing her little body to rest on my chest when her laughter grew louder and her chubby cheeks got red.
"Alright, my darling. Let's get you all pretty for Daddy." I murmured down at my daughter who thankfully remained in place when I laid her down on the bed to change her out of her footie pyjamas.
"Dahey," Scarlett babbled innocently, her eyes bright with happiness, causing my heart to fill up with adoration.
"Yeah baby. I bet you miss Daddy so much, yeah?" I crooned gently at Scarlett as I placed her new nappy on after having changed the soiled one. I grabbed her little short-sleeved denim dress from her changing table and slipped it over her messy hair. For shoes, I picked out her all white Gucci trainers Harry had gotten her a few weeks ago. After I was done getting her dressed, I sat her on my lap as I gathered her little tuff of hair and did a little pony tail on the top of her head.
"And you're all done, my sweet girl! You look so beautiful." I cooed, setting Scarlett on the ground so she could crawl toward her play mat that was covered with her toys.
Whilst she played, I put her extra nappies, blanket, and extra set of clothes into her dark purple Babymel Jesse Diaper Bag. Before I zipped up the bag, I made sure to grab Scarlett's white baby cardigan and folded it into the bag so Harry could put on her if it got too cold.
As I was fixing up my bed, I could hear the doorbell ringing, which was my queue to go downstairs seeing as my Mum was not here to answer the door.
I took Scarlett into my arms, as well as her diaper bag and walked downstairs.
"Hello." I smiled shyly at Anne and Harry when I opened the front door, being welcomed by Anne's warm grin.
"Hi darling, I hope you don't mind us being so early; I just couldn't wait to see my baby girl." Anne smiled sheepishly, Harry chuckling at his Mum's antics.
"Not at all, she's in the living room with Bubba and Dali, if you'd like to go see her." I advised the dark haired woman who immediately nodded and scurried into the house.
Harry and I were left to ourselves in a somewhat awkward silence. I was shitting myself, if I'm being honest. I've not been left alone with him since the day I left our house. And it's not that I'm uncomfortable around him, because I could never be. He's been my partner for the most part of my life and he's my baby's father. I'm still very much in love with him and I think I'll always be. No argument or disagreement will ever change that. But because of recent events we're still yet to properly talk about, I don't know how to act or what to say to him.
"You can come in, you know." I chuckled nervously, stepping aside so he could come into the warm house. When we reached the living room, we both caught sight of Anne sitting with Scarlett on her lap with Dali and Bubba laying next to her contently.
"Dahey!" Our daughter screeched excitedly when she saw her father standing next to me. Harry's smile was the biggest smile I've ever seen in my life as he went to greet a now whimpering Scarlett.
"Hello, my kitten! Daddy missed you so much, baby." He cooed as he showered Scarlett's face with kisses. Our daughter was a giggling mess as Harry fawned over her, her little hands were perched on her father's cheeks as she tried to push his face away from her own chubby one.
"No Dahey," Scarlett managed to huff cutely between breathy laughter I found nothing but precious and heartwarming.
Anne and I watched on as Harry continued to pepper the tiny girl with kisses she tried desperately to escape from, but failed each and every time due to her giggles and Harry's chuckles.
"I'm done, I promise." Harry stated playfully once he delivered a final kiss to our girl's rosy cheek. I smiled at the pair adoringly; the sight of Harry and our daughter will always be something that will put a huge smile on my face.
"Where's your Mum, Alex?" Anne inquired as Harry gave her back Scarlett so he could run his fingers through his hair in an attempt to tame it.
"Oh she's working. She went in today earlier than usual due to an emergency call. I think she'll be out at around six or seven." I explained to Anne, oblivious to the way Harry perked up when I revealed my mother was working.
"I see. Poor woman must be exhausted." She frowned as she stood Scarlett on her thighs so my little girl was facing her Nana and playing her the necklace she was sporting.
"She is. Yesterday, we were outside with Scar and the pups and she literally fell asleep on the patio chair." I chuckled lightly, causing Anne and Harry to do the same.
"So you're going to be alone all day until I bring Scarlett back?" Harry questioned slowly, his eyes peering at me intently. I nodded my head softly as I made silly faces at my daughter who had turned her attention to me, once again oblivious to the way Harry and Anne were looking at one another.
"Oh! I almost forgot! I'll be right back!" I gasped, my eyes widening in realisation as I bolted into the kitchen, Harry following after me a couple of seconds later.
"Are you alright?" He asked as he watched me scramble through the kitchen like a complete and utter maniac.
"I'm fine, yeah. I just forgot to make Scarlett's bottles so you can take for when she gets hungry." I elucidated, to which Harry nodded in understanding.
"I actually wanted to talk to you about that." He announced, causing me to quirk an eyebrow out of curiosity.
"Talk to me about what?" I pressed, moving to lean my upper body against the marble island top.
"You said you were going to be here on your own all day. I was wondering if you'd like to join us for the day? Or you could just join us for lunch if you'd like to instead..." Harry rambled nervously, his eyes not meeting my own as he spoke.
"Oh, um..."
I genuinely did not know what to say. It was kind of him to invite me out with his family, don't get me wrong. But, I don't know if it's the best idea.
"Okay... I'll join you. Only for lunch though; I've got a few things to do afterwards."
