Keep an ear out

It had been two days, not a word on Sara, Quentin and Dinah were nervous wrecks just like I was, I'm sure between the three of us we had successfully drank enough coffee to cause a rhinos heart to explode.

The only one of us that even fell asleep within those two days was Dinah, she had cried herself to sleep in Quentin's arms, the stress was taking a toll on her not only psychically, but mentally I could tell it was ripping her apart.

Within the first two days, I had worked on the proto type weapon I had previously started, just something to keep my mind from wandering into dangerous thoughts about what was possibly happening to Sara.

The cops kept telling us it would be okay, not a damned one of us actually believed that, we knew there was a chance we could find out she was dead any minute, we tried our best to be positive, but it was harder than anyone else could know.

One day, Dinah resorted to talking to criminals on the street, I came with her as she asked, she said it was for my help, but I knew she was actually just scared to death of what could happen if no one knew where she was, she knew about all of their crimes and parole violations, she struck deals.

"Keep an ear out and maybe I didn't see anything suspicious." She said more than once to multiple groups of Gangleaders, drug dealers and even pickpockets.

At night we would all impatiently wait, Dinah would just stare blankly into the fireplace, Quentin would just stare at her with worry in his eyes, but me on the other hand? I was getting sick of waiting for something bad to happen, so I was about to do something to keep it from happening.

The third night came, Quentin was in the shower, I was in the kitchen, Dinah was on the couch watching the fire, we received a call that night  from someone I would've never expected, Mick Rory.

"Dinah Lance, please?" The voice was gruff, I knew it straight away, "Why do you want to talk to her?" I was pretty curious why he was calling for her, "I have news about her daughter." A smile came across my face, "Dinah, it's for you!" I quickly yelled for her.

She hurried into the kitchen, "Who is it?" She whispered, "Mick Rory, he has news about Sara." I replied as she grabbed the phone from my hand, with that I headed out of the room, it wasn't my business really, and I knew I should never eavesdrop, but I did, I just needed to know where Sara was, so I went to the hall and grabbed the phone quietly enough to not let Dinah hear.

The only thing I heard was an address, not who had her, or how he knew, but that gave me hope, "Okay, I'll try getting the charges dropped." Dinah said finally, she started talking to him while he mentioned the charges he wanted to get dropped

I wondering what he did this time, I was curious and wanted to know, but rather than listen anymore, I just hung up the phone then headed back to the living room to wait.
