"Well? Were ye giv'n access to be down here? Who are ye anyways?" The Scotsman was standing in front of me with his arms on his hip, catching his breath as if he had been running for hours. I shook my head, "Sorry, I guess I got lost. I'm new. My name is (Y/N) and I was getting a tour of the starship with Commander Spock until I got lost. I, uh, noticed this smaller alien running around and thought I could help somehow. He seems to have everything under control though."

I smiled nervously and the tall Scotsman looked up at me in shock the moment I mentioned getting lost. "Ye mean to tell me, you managed to escape from Mr. Spock's line of view?"

I nodded and didn't quite understand his concern that quickly changed to impressed. "How interesting lassie! No one has managed to escape from Spock during one of his lectures, not even the Captain! Ya must be truly remarkable." He continued chuckling before he fixed his posture immediately. I smiled confused and let a small laugh out, "I'm afraid I don't understand Mr.."

"Mr. Scott. Thank you for locating Lieutenant (Y/N). I was in the middle of explaining the importance of engineering when she decided to wander off." That voice that I knew too well spoke from behind me. I finally understood why Mr. Scott, the Scotsman, changed his posture.

I turned around and saw none other than the Vulcan First Officer, Commander Spock. A wave of cold passed through my body as I caught his gaze on me. It was cold, emotionless but hinted at slight annoyance.

"You are extremely lucky to have run into Mr. Scott. He is the genius and most well-prepared member of the Enterprise in the field of engineering. He can explain the importance of the Enterprise instead of I, if you request, Lieutenant. This will free up my time to return back to the work I was assigned to do."

"Oh no thank you, Mr. Spock. I have me hands full with the Enterprise and her functionality. I don't need to add on another crew member to my plate. You take her now. I'm sure she already knows the importance of the engineering section. Most students are exposed to basic engineering. Now if you'll excuse me, I've a ship to repair." Mr. Scott spoke his way out of watching me, quickly running over to the short Alien he called "Wee Man."

A part of me wished Mr. Scott would have allowed me to stay. The reason being I didn't want to face the Vulcan's fury. I slowly turned my attention back to the overly patient Vulcan and cleared my throat, preparing an excuse for leaving.

"There will be no need for an excuse, Lieutenant. I expect it will not happen again. Follow me." He turned his back on me and began walking forward, pausing when he stood a few feet away from me. The slight turn of his head signaled me to quickly follow along if I were to want this tour to go smoothly. My legs moved, quickening my pace to catch up.

Interesting. According to basic knowledge of Vulcan behavior, Commander Spock should not show emotions that are considered human.

Then it dawned on me. The missing piece of information I had on Commander Spock was his other "half" was human.

I see! That's why he struck me as odd. It wasn't because he is Vulcan, but because he is also human. I wonder, though, does he struggle with his emotions?

"Commander Spock, may I ask a question?"

"In what regards is this question, Lieutenant? If it has no importance to the ship or this tour, I believe it will wait. Now this way, we will walk into the turbo lift and head to the next level."

I huffed gently and nodded. "Yessir."

The tour took a large portion of the "day". We finished the tour at one of the ship's many cafeterias/lounges. It was large enough to fit thirty some people, and its lighting was set to low to create a calm atmosphere. One side had a brightly lit bar, behind the bar an array of alcoholic drinks and cups. The other side, filled with couches and tables and chairs. There were people sitting inside chatting about unimportant matters.
