[1st POV - You]
The meeting with Nae'ei completely rested on the pure fact if she would show up. I managed to convince Captain Kirk with minimal help by Spock to let me stay until the meeting ended on agreeable terms. While we waited for the Doctor -think I remembered his name being "Bones" to the Captain- took my mother back to the ship to keep her under his care. I was seated on a rock as we waited for Nae'ei and her tribal people. It was nerve-wracking having multiple things going on at once. I could only imagine the captain and his problems along with 430 others. It must have put such a strain on him that we all take advantage of it. I definitely would have to thank him after everything was over.
Mr. Spock, on the other hand, was very quiet since his talk with my mother. According to him, things escalated beyond his comfort zone and he left her alone. A large amount of me wanted to blame him for my mother's fainting but the doctor told me it was from lack of proper food she got this way. She had to hold her emotions to a sustainable level or else nothing would progress here. I couldn't let my emotions get the best of me.
"Lieutenant. About your mother." I heard my Vulcan superior begin a conversation with me. I glanced at him briefly before returning to my notes, "it is as the captain says, Mr. Spock. She is in capable hands. I am unsure of her outcome."
"It is not about her status, Lieutenant. I wish to ask you a simple question." He continued. "How many qualities would you say you have adopted from her?"
I felt my blood go cold. How many qualities did I what..?
I looked at my First Commander with a face of disbelief.
So much for controlling my emotions.
"I beg your pardon, Sir?" I asked, putting my pen down.
"Would you say you have acquired your temperament from your mother?" He asked again, emotionless. He was talking as though he was gathering data based on my reactions.
"I find this neither the time nor the place for your questions, Mr. Spock." I bit my tongue as I nearly lost my temperament with him. Pushing my buttons while I was awaiting an important meeting was certainly not like him. Unless he was doing so for a reason. I raised my eyebrow and chuckled.
"You are something else, Sir," I spoke between my teeth and chose to focus on my notes to calm myself down. "If you don't mind. We have a particularly important meeting. Don't disturb me."
Just like that, he was quiet. Captain Kirk returned from his communicator conversation with the doctor and noted our awkward tension perhaps as he placed his hands on his hips.
"What did you do, Spock?" He questioned as Mr. Spock raised his angled eyebrow. "I simply asked a question, Captain."
"What kind of question did you ask to agitate the Lieutenant?"
"It was a scientific question, Jim. I simply asked if she had adopted a similar temperament like her mother. Her reaction was the expected outcome of my hypothesis."
I exhaled, annoyed with their conversation "Gentlemen. Could we please not place focus on my temperament for a few more hours? Can we just get this meeting over with? I'd like to get on the ship today." I asked as I didn't want the captain to get involved in a conversation between Spock and myself.
"Understood, Lieutenant." Captain Kirk sighed after a moment of silence, a chuckle escaping his mouth. I suppose he found amusement in mine and Mr. Spock's bickering.
