[1st POV- Kirk]

We managed to get the mysterious female humanoids of this planet they call Roiquoi to meet with us back at the camp. The woman of the forest returned our missing security guards. They seemed to have been extremely relaxed having been with more welcoming hosts. I couldn't help but feel both humored but troubled by the separation of these humanoids. I did not really believe it was possible that two different genders would not know about each other's existence.

It was in thanks to Lieutenant (Y/LN)'s quick thinking to enter the seemingly forbidden forest. Her belief must have come from her studies. It would have been even more likely if Mr. Spock would land at the same conclusion, but seeing how hyperactive (Y/LN) was it was almost impossible to wait for Spock's idea.

We were returning from our surprise visit with the female tribe that lived just beyond this jungle and found Spock standing outside of the tent. If he was capable of human emotions, I would describe him as angry or agitated. I walked over as the Lieutenant made her way into the tent.

"Mr. Spock. If I did not know any better, it would appear to me that you are upset." I was actually very concerned about what could have happened to make my first officer so tense. Well, tenser than usual that is.

He simply glanced at me his eyes filled with obvious discomfort and annoyance. "Nothing has changed, Captain. I do recommend we detain Lieutenant (Y/LN)'s mother. She has lost her mind, absolutely." He spoke with disdain but reason.

"That was already the plan, Spock. You see even the Lieutenant seems to believe her mother lost her mind completely out here. We have to bring her in to find out what led her to become this... tyrannical dictator of the planet." I explained calmly until a deafening female scream from inside the tent busted my eardrum.

Both Spock and I rushed into the tent, seeing the Lieutenant standing over her mother, hands reaching out as if it were to catch her.

"Mother!" She cried out before she noticed us. She kneeled on the floor next to her weakened mother, "Mr. Spock you were supposed to keep an eye on her!" Lieutenant (Y/LN) exclaimed, properly disturbed by what she had witnessed. Her voice trembled and I couldn't tell if it were out of anger or pure sadness.

"You were supposed to keep watch Mr. Spock!" She yelled again, this time standing after she had laid her mother down on pillows. She approached Spock angrily, her eyes flared in an emotional outburst. I interceded and stopped her in her tracks.

"Fighting Spock won't help her now will it, Lieutenant?!" I yelled as I struggled to push her back from Spock. I glanced back and a strange look was plastered on Spock's face. He held his phaser weakly, completely separate from the rest of us.

Guilt perhaps?

"Mr. Spock!" I sternly spoke up, hoping to snap him back to his senses. He shook slightly and put his phaser away. "What happened? Why did you leave your post?" I asked him firmly.

"The conversation between her and I became most inappropriate, Captain. Therefore I decided to step outside and keep guard there." He stated as he approached the woman's body.

Kneeling down, Spock placed a finger on the woman's wrist to check her pulse. "She's still alive Captain, but I do not know for how long she will live." He stood again, placing his phaser on the hook of his pants.

"Captain... without her alive we won't be able to find out why this planet did not progress and instead digressed into this... primitive state it's in." Lieutenant (Y/LN) processed the same thoughts I had. There were no signs of ship logs from her mother's travels nor was there a sign of her ship in the orbit. Nevertheless, it would not have survived in orbit for more than 6 months.

"Captain. Perhaps Doctor McCoy could inspect her. It is imperative that we take her into our custody and that we establish a planetary unification program immediately."

I was forced to decide whether to beam down the ship's doctor or spare my Lieutenant the aftermath of a possible lawsuit against a family member. It was a stress and an emotional toll I was not willing to put her through.

Having been in that position, knowing my flaws but strengths exposed publicly, placed a strain on not only myself but my faithful crew. I could not place her in that position, to witness her mother be publicly announced as a tyrannical dictator on a planet she was not to interfere with. It would make the Lieutenant's nonexistent reputation plummet. But if I did not uphold my duty as Captain to bring in such criminals, I would be considered an accomplice.

She looked at me with worried eyes and Spock with his logical ones, whatever those meant. I had to decide on life or death for this woman who did the same for so many months, years even.

"Captain?" Both of them questioned in unison as I stood thinking of what to be done. We had a meeting with the others of this planet and now there was a near-death before it could happen.

What will I do?
