Spock's Concerns

[Spock's POV]

"I have arrived, Captain. You requested me?" I arrived to the bridge after leaving Lieutenant (Y/N) at her quarters. She was most difficult needless to say. Not only was she able to tell with a single glance that I was not fully Vulcan, but she also managed to leave undetected during the showing of the Enterprise Engineering Bay. I've had a perfect record of losing zero percent of new crew members until she joined.

Quite illogical.

"Why yes, Mr. Spock. Where is Lieutenant (Y/N)? Did you not bring her along to the bridge?" Captain Kirk questioned with a strange face. His mouth was curved into a smile that showed far too much emotion acceptable for the occasion.

"Negative, Captain. I have ordered her to stay in her quarters until her shift tomorrow morning. With all due respects, Captain, why would I bring her to the bridge?" I questioned the Captain. He stood now and laughed, "I just assumed you would end your glorious and perfect tour with the bridge as you always have done before. Your tour this time around took much longer than your previous ones."

"I do not understand where you are going with this conversation, Captain. My tours remain perfectly planned and there are zero mistakes during them. Are you implying my tour with Lieutenant (Y/N) was anything but perfect?"

Captain Kirk placed a firm hand on my shoulder and again chuckled. "Calm down, Mr. Spock. I am simply asking how the tour went. Did she give you any trouble?"

"What is your definition of 'trouble', sir? There are different forms of trouble."

"Trouble as in.. did she cause your perfectly calculated time and effort to change at the last minute, thus causing frustration? Anger possibly?"

"I am capable of neither of those emotions, Captain. Now if you will excuse me, I will continue my work. I am severely behind schedule because of the prolonged tour for Lieutenant (Y/N)."

"So, the tour was not perfect, Mr. Spock?" He continued to press for an answer I was not willing to give him. It was a strange feeling inside my body that sparked an uncomfortable warmth. A part of me found it illogical for myself to pay any attention to the prying of my Captain, and the other battled with a desire to quiet the Captain. I turned to face my Captain calmly.

"The tour was different than expected, Captain. It was perfectly planned. I did indeed have to make last minute changes because of Lieutenant (Y/N), mostly due to your sudden promotion of her. When someone creates articulate plans, it is only common courtesy to alert them beforehand if there were any major changes within a certain time frame."

"Ah, so it is my fault that Lieutenant (Y/N) managed to sneak away from you without you noticing? I apologize, Mr. Spock."

"If you were to play any fault here, Captain, it would be due to the fact that you have promoted someone who has provided no sort of proof to earning that promotion. She has just arrived and already received a promotion that is not well-deserved. I believe you have made illogical decisions in the past, but this surpasses them all. That is your faulty nature, Captain. Now if I may, I will continue my work in my quarters."

[3rd person POV]

As Spock left the bridge in an annoyed and frustrated fit, Captain Kirk couldn't stop the smirk that formed on his face. He enjoyed teasing his First Officer and best friend. He always enjoyed seeing Spock's emotions come out, and now that (Y/N) was onboard he saw it as a greater opportunity to see it happen. He only remembered the sass she had given him back in The Academy and knew since then she would be capable of anything thrown at her.

He examined her analytical nature and her passion for completing the mission before anything else were to happen. The moment the Enterprise received her application, he knew he wanted her onboard and felt she had much to offer to the ship and the crew. To find someone in that specific field of study was very rare and largely desired, but according to Mr. Spock, it was a "useless, dead-end career."

[A few days prior]

"It is only a dead-end career if you label it as such, but if you become lenient and open your mind to the illogical you will see the importance in even the most trivial things."

Those were the words Kirk told Spock while trying to convince him of accepting (Y/N). Spock did not wish to have her aboard, simply because he felt there were more qualified people for the Enterprise, but because Kirk was the Captain he had no choice but to agree and accept (Y/N). Little did he know she would prove to be a headache for his careful and meticulous planning. She would prove bothersome to his mathematics and logic. She did not act like most humans. She was erratic, worse than the Captain. She acted upon her whim and was the human embodiment of illogical behavior.

At the same time, she impressed him with her ability to analyze and learn about a creature at a single glance. Spock could not deny she was talented, but also decided she was mediocre.

"It does not take talent to watch a species and provide an analyzation on their culture and customs. It takes true science to understand the language, history, and composition of an Alien race. Just because she studied out of books and the Academy's logs of different species, it does not guarantee her accuracy. It is the reason we have always rejected those in the same field seeing how we have access to computerized logs that are 99.999999% accurate, Captain. Why must we start now and why with her?"

"Simply put, Spock. I am Captain and I order for her to join the Enterprise crew. You are to treat her as you would any other member of this crew, with respect. Those are my orders and I expect them to be carried out."

Needless to say, that was the end of the small dispute, but it was the beginning of Spock's headaches. Never before had he experienced a growing frustration, confusion, and disapproval such as this. It is why he had decided to return to his quarters that evening to continue his work, alone.

The only thing he could agree on with (Y/N) on was the fact that being alone proved more satisfactory than being surrounded by others for relaxation. That was the only logical statement she had made within the times they spoke. Other than that statement, she was simply illogical. Everything that surrounded her was illogical.

Spock knew of the illogical, he simply did not agree with it. He understood the human trait of being illogical and even would say it was the hidden 7th emotion. It was a small joke he had to himself. But every day, he felt his human half growing stronger in the desire to being accepted and explored. It worried him. He took great pride in being Vulcan. Burying his human half only made the pride of being Vulcan larger and made the human desire to be noticed grow.

Spock's human desires began to calm the moment he and Lieutenant Nyota Uhura engaged in a romantic relationship that only fluctuated as time continued on. Some days, it proved illogical to continue the relationship, but it felt even more illogical to not be with Uhura. At this precise moment, both Lieutenant Uhura and Spock were taking a sure leave from their relationship. (author note: I'm trying to be punny. Sure leave = shore leave. Ahaha okno- )

"I do not understand why humans accept these emotions when they only cause illogical outcomes. I do not understand why they would welcome the curse of emotions." He was speaking to himself as he sat at his desk working on his reports that were due the next morning. Yet another thing that frustrated him was being behind on his work.

Was his Captain doing this to simply stir those emotions he was trying so desperately to bury and hide away? If so, why would he do so? There is no logic to freeing these emotions. It would only harm the mission more than enhance it.

Captain Kirk is far too illogical for my liking at this time. I must address my discomfort with him upon finishing this work.
