[1st POV - You]
I was assigned to a search party on my first day as an official lieutenant of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Commander Spock was not in any mood to deal with it. He refused to look me in the eye and I felt it was because I used such an informal tone with him earlier today. I sighed gently as I held my tricorder that was slung across my chest and stood on the loading dock awaiting my beaming.
Amongst the team were two security officers, Commander Spock and Captain Kirk himself. Doctor McCoy would be beaming down afterwards with us just in case any of the people we were looking for were in need of medical attention. I glanced around as I noticed Mr. Scott was the one beaming us down. He must have been placed in charge of the ship while the captain was away.
"Okay, Mr. Scott. Whenever you are ready to beam us down to the planet below. Be sure we land somewhere safely." Captain Kirk spoke, placing heavy emphasis on the word "safely".
"I'll try me best, Captain. Now don't move and you'll keep all yer body parts, I promise." It seemed that Mr. Scott was teasing the Captain, as he held a small, tight smirk on his Scottish lips. It made me quite nervous, if I were to be honest.
Mr. Scott pushes a few of the buttons and pushed the handle upwards slowly, starting the disintegration process thus beaming us down to the unknown planet below us. I took Mr. Scott's words very seriously and remained stiff as possible. I was not going to risk losing an arm on my very first beam down mission.
We finally beamed and reached the planet below. It bore similarities to that of the planet Earth. The air was breathable. The weather was calm, warm and almost welcoming. Plants surrounded the around of our descent and welcomed us with a cleared trail that was obviously placed there by other forms of life. I looked around, taking good glances before even moving.
I inhaled, sharply only to realize that there was tension in the landing party. Commander Spock took the first step before me and gestured the entire team not to move.
"To whomever, or whatever, lurks beyond the bushes, we come with no ill intention." Commander Spock spoke, calmly and collected. Captain Kirk, however, was quick to grasp his phaser and signaled the other two security members to do the same. I, of course, playing the role of the damsel was hidden behind the wall of men. Strangely, I did not feel threatened by the new surroundings. If anything, I felt very welcomed and as if I belonged on this planet.
There was a rustling in the vegetation nearby. The two redshirt security men pointed their phasers on the direction, alarmed and waiting for something to appear. That's when a group of, what I would assume to be, male humanoid figures appeared. They were hardly covered in fabrics, very primitively hunched as if to exam us before taking any further steps. They wore brown fabric patches to cover the bare necessities, areas that we humans would deem too obscene to be revealed. They were nearly taller than the Captain, but slightly passed the height of Commander Spock's shoulders.
I caught a glimpse of one of the many males if I could call them that. His hazel eyes sparkled in the planet's sunlight, intrigued by the appearance of these strange men and the only woman. I could only assume that he was the leader of this pack, for lack of better description, as he made the first moves. He stepped towards me, his bare feet crackling the planet's leaves underneath them with every step. I froze, not with fear, but as an instinct. I watched as he approached me, drawing closer and closer, extending his hand towards me as if to interlock a strand of (Y/Hair Color) within his hand, until suddenly the all too familiar blue hue of a science/medical degree shirt blocked my view. Mr. Spock had intervened and prevented the strange male to draw any closer.
"It would be illogical to approach her, as she holds no importance here." Commander Spock, once again, spoke in insult. I bit my tongue holding back the Vulcan words I knew for insulting him.
Then, suddenly, the man began speaking in a native tongue. I had only heard versions of this language in one of the many language classes I had taken and was quick to decipher their message. It was a language built on pitch and tone, the rise and fall all determining the emphasis or importance of the message.
"He wishes to know why we are here," I started from behind Commander Spock. I glanced at Captain Kirk and sighed gently, "he is not angry but quite agitated with our visit, it would seem." I explained gently.
Commander Spock did not step down from his placement of standing. "Tell him we have come to retrieve the missing men and women that were beamed down here a few weeks ago." Captain Kirk ordered. I nodded and began to carefully speak the language.
As I spoke, the leader interrupted. His voice was urgent and increased in agitation.
"What did he say, Lieutenant?" The captain asked.
I inhaled sharply, "I must speak to him face to face, or else I am being disgraceful." As I spoke the words, I could not help but feel a strange and sudden eagerness to speak with him. Moments ago, I was eager to see the male's eyes again and now, I desired a conversation with him.
Strange, I've never felt this before.
"We've come for our men and women. Please allow us to investigate and find them unless you know about their disappearance on your planet." Captain Kirk spoke, unwilling to let me speak directly to these males. The leader began to speak his language again, insisting that I speak to him face to face. Spock refused to move and the Captain also remained on edge. There was a tense silence between the two parties and suddenly, an unfamiliar voice began to speak the familiar language of English.
"I will answer all questions, but all questions must come from the woman. And only the woman may speak."
—————
"I beg your pardon?" I asked peeking over from behind Commander Spock.
"In our village, we hold the vocals and knowledge of women to high regard. Only a handful of males, like I, are granted special access to learn how to speak. Men who speak, are men who seek. That is what our Head Priestess teaches us." The male spoke in response. "We will give you some time to discuss what will be done. My people know of you strangers who appear from the sky. There were a few of you who arrived. If you wish to know where your fellow villagers went, you must accept my conditions."
I glanced at the Commander and captain as I felt a great burden rested on myself. The male allowed us space to discuss. Captain Kirk was obviously discomforted by the commands of a life form, but we had our own regulations to follow. We must remain peaceful whomever or whatever we encounter unless they strike first. I glanced back and forth as the Captain and Commander seemed to discuss mentally.
"I trust that Lieutenant (Y/L/N) can handle this type of conversation." Commander Spock sighed, obviously knowing the outcomes of this were anything but logical if chosen to avoid the commands of the native of this planet. I nodded my head, "We are only looking to locate the rest of the crew. It will be a simple process. I will not take too long, perhaps we could speak to this priestess." I offered but quickly was denied by Captain Kirk.
"I only care to get my men and women back. Nothing more. Nothing less. Is that understood?" He stared at me intensely and I had no choice but to nod. "Yessir." I still felt it was important to seek this Priestess. She sounded interesting.
I approached the native after our short discussion, "We agree to the terms. Now I ask you, where are the other men and women you speak of?"
The native man approached me, leaving plenty of space between the both of us. "They were attacked by the Roiquoi."
